X-Blades

Terrible Game? ...maybe.
As I fan of Blades of Time I thought I'd pick this up, and while I enjoyed it... I certainly see why people would call it terrible.

Most of the bad rap this game gets is from the fact that they don't know what the game is. This game is an arcade game, with minor platforming elements. Think Space Invaders meets any fighting game. The gameplay is simple; go in kill everything, explore a bit, move on and do it all over again. It makes no effort to hide this, in fact it even gives you a score screen at the end of each section. It's a very very simple concept.

The Bad:
Repitition- It gets old, fast. I just doesn't offer a lot of things to do, you go in you get out. Then again there's not much to space invaders or fighting games either.
Jumping/Platforming- This is easly solved but using a keyboard and mouse with the alwasy run option turned off, but is a major pain with the controller.
Story- Really now, what arcade game has story? And if they did, it was rather weak at best. This game has one, in order to give you some premise, but it's not much to write home about.

The Good:
Sound- The music is rather good I thought. It sure got the point of the game across, the point being Swords, Guns, Babes, and Rock. Nothing to complain about for monster sounds, voice acting. Only 1 minor glitch in the Blades of Death section (which is super short) where you should really turn off your speakers till you get out of it.
Graphics- Texture quaility was suprisingly good! Top notch lighting effects. I enjoyed the "funky" style of the the game, it's rather refreshing. While the enviorments seem empty and bland, I was suprised by the amount of detail there was, even if it was almost all the same color.
Fan Service- For many people this was the saving grace of the game, others hated it even more due to it. But I've got to say... they did a good job in this area. Like it or Hate it, this game's got a good amount of it. It's not overly imposing, you barely notice it when you're playing and not looking for it, and it's there for you to drool over if you are.
Super Moves- This was awesome, at least for me. The fact that they have the old school mini cutsenes for special moves just added to the whole "Im a Super Powerful Sexy Bad***, and I'm gonna blow you up!" theme of the game.

All in all I enjoyed my play of this game, but I don't think I'll play it again anytime soon. I don't regret my time spent, but there are just so many other better games to play. If this game had come out for say, early gamecube/late N64 era it might have been a classic. As it stands I'd say it was worth what I got it for on Amazon which was about $4.

The fanservice on this is bad
G-strings are ugly and unattractive

and there's no way this game can even compare to the late n64/early gamecube games when those are better in terms of gameplay *cough*LOZ windwaker*cough*Donkey kong 64*cough*

Well fanservice is subjective, some people like styles of clothing others don't. Windwaker and DK are not arcade style games, but adventure games. Much like trying to compare something like Jak and Daxter to Half-Life. Arcade style games are not the most popular as they tend to be spammy and repeditive, but there have been a few over the years that I've enjoyed a lot. X-blades is a game I'll play maybe once more in a few years then likely never touch it gain. But another arcade game with similar themes, P.N.03 for Gamecube, is one that I'll play time and time again.

Like I said, "Terrible game? Maybe." I thought it was "meh" but ok. if you don't like arcade games or the style of fanservice then it will most definately be terrible.

anyway I recommend picking up on metal gear rising instead of this game

As an impulse buy with a 90% off coupon it was pretty good fun for a dollar, seriously I would spend more than that on an arcade machine so this game meets my expectations as to what a $1 game should be.

I got it because of it's bad reputation.

I have to agree with you, it's not great but it's not bad either. For what you're getting for one dollar it's a decent game. There is no point in complaining over a game you payed less than the price of candy bar for XD. For what I payed I'm pretty happy with it and I agree with most of your list of positives (and the negatives).

I disagree. Whether or not a game is good is independent of price. The big problem with saying "It's only a dollar/5 dollars/free so who cares how bad it is" is that time is money. I have a hundred games in my backlog that I'll never have the time to play. Whether or not this game deserves to be on that list, and how high up on it it is, is independent of the price of the game.

Fair enough, the way I see it this game fits well into one of those "I'm bored and need to waste some time hacking things", of course there are better games for that than this one quality wise. But yes I understand what you're saying.

You are entitled to your own opinion. I, for one, expect a heck of a lot more out of a $60 title than I do a $4 one. And Like I said before I really don't regret my time spent playing this game. I too have a few games on backlog, but they got there becuase I knew that I would take/find the time to play them. However, I'm not always in the mood to get into something deep and amazing. Sometimes I just want to sit down and play a bit of fluff. The man that eats nothing but filling healthy meals will come to crave fast food every once in a while.

And sometimes its nice, while saving up for a better more expensive game to buy a cheap but still fun one in the mean time. Not all of us can buy tons of games at once.

seems worth the 2.60 cents whatever I paid. I knew going it in it was an arcade fighting game.

It differs from a lot of arcade games though because its not super hard like a lot of them are and I like that and it does suffer from becoming repetitive really fast.

I got it cuz of the 75% sale and I was interested in a cheesy but enjoyable fighter.... Nothing you do in terms of moves feel impactul, no dashes make for dull movements, lack of real combos, the list goes on and on. Sure it might still be worth 2.50 as an arcady beatemup, but I think it still could have been more as a title.

also gotta love how they force you to "register" to play the game even when you own it, and they say they won't ask for personal info with the internet registration, but then make your address one of the required fields of info.

God this game is the worst piece of dung I've touched in years, maybe even in the past decade.
