Black screen at startup

Hi,

When I press play on Steam, the launcher comes up just fine. But when I try to continue past the launcher, the game window comes up and it's just a frozen black screen. I have to use task manager to close it.

I have allowed the game through the firewall, verified the game cache, turned all settings down to low, and turned DX12 off. I checked my Windows (1803) and Nvidia driver (399.24) versions and they are both up to date.

I had a black screen, but I could hear music. A restart of Steam fixed it for me

I hear no music, but tried restarting Steam all the same. No dice :/

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game. Still nothing. At this point should I just ask for a refund? I'm not even going to be able to play it at launch, even though I was supposed to have the 48-hour beta...

If I can't play it there's no point in keeping it.

Same issue- black screen with music. Starting in windowed mode gets the game to launch properly, but its not really a great solution.

Hi Judean,

Can you try doing a clean install of your GPU driver?
Also, your game log cuts off a bit abruptly, can you try letting the process run for a few minutes, and link it again?

I tried a clean install and it didn't work. This is the log file from my latest attempt to launch:

The last several I've looked at all end in that "[NxApp] Renderer initialized" line, even if I leave the black screen alone for 10 minutes or so.

Just to double-check, I tried reinstalling the GPU drivers a second time. I was still unsuccessful, but I figured I might as well share exactly what I did.

The first time, I just used the Nvidia manager to reinstall the 399.24 driver using the "clean install" option. This time, I went into device manager and maually uninstalled and deleted the driver. Then I redownloaded it and did a custom reinstall, making sure the "3D" options were unchecked (since I just noticed some error messages in the log file). Then I tried to boot the game again.

The log file this time is slightly different, but not by much. Mainly, the "validate desktop settings" is missing, but I think that's because this time I tried launching it in exclusive full screen. Not sure.

Launched it one more time with DX12 disabled, out of exclusive fullscreen, and with lowest settings. Still nothing. The log file looks the same again.

The new patch broke the game for me, I just get stuck on the 1st splash screen. The previous version works (available as beta)

I have been trying to launch the game since pre-release. I had the same problem on the old patch.

I have figured out how to get the game to launch.

I have to be playing from my administrator account.

That does not mean launching as administrator. I usually use a normal user account on my computer for security reasons. The game still does not boot under that account.

However, once I switched to my administrator account, the game launched just fine. I have never experienced that before.

For now I will consider this thread closed. But it would be nice if I didn't have to switch users to play the game :P
