Yes, explore and pay attention to your surroundings, like alienstookmybeer said, there is a passage by the walls of the cave that grants you access to the top.
Try your best to find out without help, the game dont have so many moments where you really get lost, when it happen, dont think of it as something boring you wanrt to get rid off, enjoy the "trying to figure out yourself", because once you do figure out on yourself, the feeling will be much better ;)

(I like to play the TRs once a year so the game always have somethings I forgot from year to year).
