SoTR is the best of the remake trilogy
Just started playing yesterday and i am amazed by how much they improved. Here are some improvements of the top of my head.

-Sounds - The sounds in Rise and Tomb are terrible, guns sound like hitting a pan, or like pew shooters, Shadow has impactful, heavy gun sounds. The atmosphere is also a lot better due to all the haunting sounds in Temples, wildlife in jungle, etc.

-Movement - In the previous games Lara moved finicky and awkward, the camera was pulled back more and it always felt "off". Now, it is so much better, the movement feels precise and accurate.

-Traversal - So much better! Rise was a nightmare with verticality and cramming everything upwards which, coupled with bad movement mechanics, just made exploration feel frustrating. Now, the map is more compact, navigating makes a lot more sense and discovering secrets is actually exciting.

-Tombs - no more just going into an abandoned Soviet mine, no more bizarre solutions, no more finicky animations - tombs are now spooky, haunting, dangerous, with great audio cues and fun puzzles.

-Combat - the best in the series. Weapons pack a mean punch, stealth is functional and highly rewarding. Different stealth takedowns offer a lot of variety, while the enemy AI is clever enough to go looking for you, checking last known locations, etc.

-Crosshair - Finally good crosshairs - we are done with that stupid circle! Now, aiming for that headshot feels rewarding.

-Story - They toned down the melodrama, the set-piece explosions, the constant "running only to fall and injure yourself and get back up". a much more personal, slow, paced experience. Lara herself feels like a more normal person now than in Rise where she felt off.

-Quests and NPCs - who even remembers those stupid Remnants from Siberia? Or any NPC from Tomb? The town in Shadow is fun to explore, feels lived in, has its own sense of place. The whole idea of bartering is great, there is a merchant, quests are now finally fun, you get a short cutscene of Lara chatting instead of some fur barbarian telling you to collect hardwood or whatever.

-Graphics - Oh, my GOD. The game looks stunning. I cranked up everything and it shows. One interesting issue - this will make future platforming, and Third Person Adventures MORE DIFFICULT - everything seems so realistic it is hard to figure out what is collectible and what is only clutter. I guess that is why some form of Detective Vision is a must. Light bounces off great, giving everything warmth and color, dark crevices are damp and cold, the shadows are fantastic. Faces look great, cloth moves naturally, foliage looks AMAZING. You really have to play it just to experience the look of the game.

Every single thing that was an issue, they improved. I had my doubts whether this series has a future but, if they carry on like this, they will create a fantastic series that will be fondly rememberd, like the Batman Arkham series. Honestly amazed how much they improved the core of the game over Tomb and Rise.

9/10 so far!

Hard disagree beyond rising, rising is non existent to me I loved the first and third your just listening to much andrew tate putting women in a box she does not act like a man she is agile like many women are meant to be.

I hard disagree many games go their own route but if your going to make a long game you need some of that kind of upgrading system period, if its short yea not needed it depends on the game, also this is something I never understood since there are loads of indie games out there to.

I just hope they don't water down the formula too much to the point it becomes something like Starfield, pleasing nobody, pissing off everyone - it was pretty fresh, complex RPG systems and whatnot but nowadays, sheesh... the second i hear "roguelite" or "base-building" i just deflate, my enthusiasm is just... poof

Rise was terrible for me when it came to collectibles, there were SO many of them - Shadow was much better with not wasting your time with collecting trinkets or whatnot. I was pleased with the leveling system in Shadow, it was evenly paced out but the core of the game is just becoming... obsolete? Outdated? Maybe they think it mixes well with RPG mechanics and it does, but what then? Uncharted is basically the same thing, i really hope they have a good hook, Trinity was NOT a good hook, nobody cares about them and even after THREE GAMES we don't really know anything about them other than "TRINITY BAD!"

They need a good villain i guess.
Fair enough there are way to many rogulites but I am mostly talking about higher graphic indie games that are often suppressed and you really need to follow certain channels. I loved uncharted but it always felt kind of boring since there was no basic upgrading system, it was just a slight feeling maybe I am a little conditioned to expect it but I felt like a basic skill tree would have been awesome. I have yet to play the newest ones.

One interesting thing is also how Jedi Survivor and Respawn's Jedi series would NOT work without some basic upgrading system yet there is a game series called Jedi Knight where there really isn't anything of the sort that works but its aaaancieeeent, early 200s or something...

I think RPG systems are here to stay they are just too much fun - hell, i remember even in a Lovecraftian horror game like The Sinking City - you had it. If it adapted well, it changes the gameplay loop sooo well.

I do wonder what their plan is - i just hope we get done with the bow already i am sick and tired of the damn thing!

As you said, it depends on what they plan to do: again action/metroidvania game with RPG elements or return back to the roots and improve this formula. And which RPG elements, because in Shadow this leveling tree doesn't work because, basically, we have action skills, but the game has less action sequences than previous games and more about exploration than action.
And I hope they'll remove metroidvania elements because it doesn't work on exploration, and messages like "Sry come lateer with a specific tool" breaks all the feeling of exploration. I think immersive elements would be better where players can find their one ways.
But to be honest this franchise is dead to me, I've replayed new reboot and Legend reboot , and I like Legend more then the last one.
Maybe Crystal Dynamics vision for this franchise is not for me.

Thats your opinion many of us love metroidvania in a high graphic 3d game.

Nothing new so far about the new series - i think the new Croft model is the one in Call of Duty, other than that - where the story will go, what kind of gameplay we can expect, is still unknown. Graphics will probably be good, i guess?

I miss that series so much it was Star Wars at its peak... Kyle Katarn is the best version of scoundrel Jedi for me. I hope it doesn't get forgotten.
