Global Illumination along with the shadows would have been a really nice change for waiting 6 months.
Either the market at the beginning of the game, or one of the open areas with lots of water and a waterfall might show it's capabilities a bit better :-/
AMD are also going to be using Ray tracing in the future so get excited :)

On vegetation, individual leaves now cast shadows on other leaves too. There are so many more shadows that it's understandable why performance is affected so heavily.
I assure you i did not messed up with the settings, sometimes RTX OFF look better...!
Vilhjalmr, i can't see your slider it's blank
This, you don't want to show caves and foliage as those areas are those where there the impact will be negligible. You want multiple light sources, reflective surfaces and areas where plenty of shadow can be cast. hence why i suggested the market (where the festival is happening) at the beginning.
I can see where you are coming from, however if you look at the overall scene, with RTX off, the only way that you would see a scene looking like that is if there was a light source behind the camera. With RTX on, the impression of what you would actually see is much more correct, as there is only the one primary light source. You can see this results in the shadow of pillar looking more accurate.
No, this is what ray traced shadows look like. Its basically just Super-Ultra shadows. These screenshots don't do it justice. However, I'm not sure its worth enabling even with a 2080 Ti at 1440p.
Ray traced global illumination is the real holy grail, and we may be about one generation away from it. It's pretty cool. Instead of acting all jaded, you should be happy that rendering technology is being pushed forward, rather than just MOAR FPS
