If you going to talk about things that worked on previous TRs . . . previous TRs before TR 2013 did not have map at all.
I know, I know, "options", they could add a whole hud with map, pointers, etc, for the easy exploration and puzzle difficulty making it a "follow this arrow/pointer and also have a map" for those that dont enjoy the classic TRs at all . . as much as at the higher difficulties there should be no map at all even when pressing TAB to check other stuff like relics, tombs, etc that are left to be done (but without being able to see where all that is, problem of opening map is, you open it and things literally pop up in front of you and what have been seen can not be unseen, the map already give away everything even if you dont pay attention, you already have idea of where things are because the map popped).
I would not be againts option to even make everything highlight through walls, floors and ceillings if that was the case (and it could very much be parto of exploration and puzzle easy difficulties), but if that also had an option to play as a classic Tomb Raider without map and all other stuff that are forced to the player (as the map you literally can not avoid if you want to check if that is something left or not at the area, or if you want to teleport from location to location).
