I haven't had problems with the game. I even finished it already, with the graphics to the max, last week. Yesterday, the game got the latest patch, and today I wanted to play it again, but mid game it crashed, and a dialog showed up with this error message:

A problem has occurred with your display driver. Your system may not have enough resources to run the game at the selected settings. You can retry using the same settings, or adjust them to lower settings. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your video hardware, and try rebooting your system to help clear up any issues.

Any idea what could be causing it? As I said, the last thing that got updated was the game itself. Windows and the NVidia drivers were last updated about 3 days ago.

Check your Direct X, reinstall it. Verify game files too. I didn't see no patch update for Shadow this week. I'll have to launch and look.

"Check your DirectX" - What does that mean?
"Verify game files" - Verify what, exactly?

I changed the option on the start menu (the window which appears BEFORE the game starts... I unticket "Direct x 12". Then I played the game and it was OK.
I ticked direct x 12 again and... no more crash...

First update your graphic driver.

"Verify game files" means right clic on it in steam > Options > Local files > Verify integrity of files

This worked for me...

Specs:
CPU: 8086K (Special Edition 8700K)
GPU: Aorus 1080ti 11GB
RAM: 32GB Corsair Dominator

I have had a few games crashing on me.
With Borderlands 3, I figured out that limiting my frames to 60FPS eliminates all my crashing.
So I started experimenting with other games that crash on me, and sure enough. Not sure whether it is a 1080 problem or a screen problem. I suspect it is my monitor. (60hz LED)

So Tomb Raider crashed on me. (During intro)
I first disabled dx12. No luck.
Then I opened Nvidia Control Panel - Manage 3D Settings...
I changed VSync to On and made Max Frame Rate 58FPS.
Haven't had any crashes since.

Worth a try.
Hope it helps someone.

SSAA caused this for me. Doesn't happen with TAA.

First play of the game getting that same crash after 1 hour. I have DLSS enabled which overrides the AA settings and Vsync capped to 60Hz. My friend tells me they stopped playing months back for the same reason.

Either downgrade your actual build of the game to post before last one or don' tput SSAA witch is asking far too much ressources for almost nothing in fact. In particular in 4k of course.

To the ancient gen even an 2080 ti could be brought to his knee with it on x4...it say at lot literaly cut your fps in half (with an 2080 ti so if you have below i let you imagine ).

Just optimised the settings (Ulytra ius a fals eone as many AAA game snowadays and since well more than 10 years in fact due to scaling since the console not after the pc...)

Same for Resident evil 2 and much others (almost all in fact).
