low fps on 3080?
Is this game just ridiculously CPU bound? I don't have any issues with other demanding games, aside from Total War.

Here's my 1440p benchmark: https://puu.sh/GSVbs/53cae970b7.png

sub 60 fps dips at 1080p with everything maxed out.

But I can play control at a steady 80-90 fps with everything (including RT) maxed out at the same resolution.

What CPU do you have because it could be a case of a bottleneck. I have a 3080 and get 107 average fps on max settings with Ultra RT at 1440p so something is definitely off about your performance.

An i7 6700k, so not a bad CPU by any stretch, but also not top of the line

When you run the in-game benchmark what does it say? It should tell you if you're GPU bound or CPU bound with a graph. You want the graph to show the GPU doing more of the work than your CPU.

Yeah, the benchmark definitely says "0% GPU Bound". Not quite sure how to get my gpu to do the work that it should just... Do automatically. lol

Have you tried the game with DLSS enabled to see if that helps at all? How much ram do you have and do you know what speed it is by chance? I think this game chokes if you only have 8 GB's of ram.

Tried DLSS, it did literally nothing.

16 GB of RAM running at 3200 MHz through bios XMP.

This is the only game I've had an issue with.

This trilogy is deceptive. It's a memory hog both CPU and GPU.
Just because "other demanding games" don't have this problem, doesn't mean Shadow is just like them.
I've played all 3 games since inception and not once have they been less demanding. With each game, they got more demanding.
Not to insult your rig, but try lowering some of your "super high" settings to see if that will help you.

Oh I ran the other 2 fine with lesser hardware.

I have an older PC, and I am mostly GPU bound except towns with npcs. There I have obvious CPU bottleneck.

With 1070ti I have 80-100fps @1080 while exploring alone and ~30-40 in towns.

Yeah it's especially egregious right now in the forest after the plane crash. Weird.

as far as I'm concerned it seems more GPU bound when I looked at it through the xbox game bar performance tool. However I don't think you should be getting low frame rates on a 3080 like that. I'm not gaming on a monster machine but form what i got it wasn't exactly eating my CPU alive.

check your Power Plan is set to Balanced or High Performance
check RAM is in Dual Channel with CPU-Z

check PCIe Bus Interface Speed with GPU-Z, should be x16 3.0 @ x16 3.0

well that's weird. my GPU fps are significantly higher, but my game is just refusing to utilize it
