Stupid question - crafting arrows...
OK, this is getting a little frustrating now.

I think I should be able to craft arrows (after collecting feathers and hardwood) by holding down the right mouse button. It brings up an indication that I have zero (in red) fire or normal arrows but doesn't actually do anything.

What on earth am I doing wrong?

To put this into some context in terms of where I am in the game, I'm about 2 hours in, I've found Jonah (?) and I have a bow and a mountaineering axe that I've recovered.

I was supposed to be killing a jaguar earlier but couldn't craft any arrows, so the second one appeared and I stabbed it in the head with a QTE and the earlier one then dragged off its mate.

What is going on?

You should be able to craft standard arrows with the left button. To craft fire or fear arrows, make sure bow is selected, and use your scroll wheel to select the special ammo. Then use the scroll wheel button to craft that kind of arrow.

Special ammo for the guns works similarly.

Well, that's what I thought, but it just doesn't seem to work.

I only have the bow as a weapon as not found anything else yet. The bow is therefore the only thing equipped, it selects as if to aim when holding down the rmb but does nothing...

OK, so apparently for me it's LMB, not RMB - even though it says RMB in the keymapping...

Actually the default button for crafting all special ammo is MMB as whitecrow stated.
To fire special ammo you also use the MMB.

Middle button currently doing nothing.

Just needed some normal arrows to kill wildlife...

Dont know why it sais for you its RMB. The game should have stated that holding LMB is for crafting normal arrows. In short : the fire button.
For creating the fire arrows, you press and hold the button you use to shoot them. In my case MMB.

The same function is on the ps4.

Sorry, misread this answer completely. In my defence it was a long day and I was tired.
