I just got the base game (although in my inventory is says definitive edition) from humble bundle....how can I get the DLC that comes with the definitive edition? Is there any upgrade path besides buying the definitive edition outright?

As written on HB Website:

Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition will only include the base game. This does not include the Definitive Upgrade, Croft Edition Extras, or Deluxe Extras.

Why on earth is it called DEFINITIVE EDITION, If it isn't??

Because the game includes the dlcs and items and skills.

In Shadow of the Tomb Raider Definitive Edition experience the final chapter of Lara’s origin as she is forged into the Tomb Raider she is destined to be. Combining the base game, all seven DLC challenge tombs, as well as all downloadable weapons, outfits, and skills

he's talking about the version from humble bundle. it says definitive version but it's in fact just the base game.

There doesn't seem to be a base game anymore. There is only one version all 7 dlcs and items that came with the season pass. I think deluxe extras and croft edition extras are missing from Definitive Edition.

Yah....wtf...

So...exactly -wtf- are we supposed to do if we got the HB version? Because we in effect, own the game version that has all the DLC, and I sure don't want to repurchase a 'definitive' edition, to get the DLC....

You really dont get what is talked here. There is a Definitive edition with only base game, and there is a definitive edition with everything in it (croft and deluxe). This confuses people many times since they both have the same name.

Indeed, they arent selling base game anymore, but there is some OLD keys around at internet which is only base game and doesnt get a free upgrade to complete version. The name of that old key is changed from base game to definitive edition (but without croft and deluxe since there is no free upgrade for only base game) and this confuses people as i said before.

And yes, people with croft/seasonpass edition do get a free upgrade to definitive edition (which is complete version), dont confuse at this.

I hope it is clear now for you.

What's even more confusing is there's no clear and easy way to upgrade the new "base" version of SOTTR to the true Definitive edition. On the bundle page, there is the definitive upgrade ($30), the deluxe extras ($12), and the croft edition extras ($8). So on top of buying the base game, to get the complete experience, you'll likely have to purchase all 3 items for $50, which is the price of a new triple A game. You can get most of the season pass content with the definitive upgrade, but even that is too expensive.

Easiest way would be to likely buy the game bundle on steam when it goes on sale. Since it is a tailored bundle, the bundle price willl take into account that the game is already owed and remove that proportion of the "price" from the game.

The old keys isnt changed from base game to definitive edition without the content. The license activates as just Shadow of the tomb raider. But what confuses people is that its called definitive edition on store page. The reason its called definitive edition is because you can only buy the bundle on steam. HB gives you this: https://store.steampowered.com/sub/268072/ you might get redirected after age check so enter twice if thats the case. Definitive edition on the other hand gives you this https://store.steampowered.com/bundle/12231/Shadow_of_the_Tomb_Raider_Definitive_Edition/

You can also check your license page. It will not say definitive edition there.

is there any way to get only the season pass when you have the HB base game? I thought I'd just get that + then slap a season pass on it to have the DLC (I don't care about the deluxe/croft extras). But if I click on the def. upgrade, I just get the bundle. Do I have to get a key from outside of Steam for the 'old' sdeason pass?

This confusion happens all the time with lots of games. Steam should take of of these problems in my opinion. Lots of times for different games,I have seen all dlcs ~ season pass cost more than buying everything including the game itself. I especially hate it when I can not buy the 90% discounted bundle (ultimate edition) that includes everything for a game simple because I already owned the base game probably which came with humble bundle or some other bundle. By the time I can reach Steam support to remove the game from my account, the discount already ended.

Example:

I can not buy Little Nightmares Complete Edition because I already have Little Nightmares on my account. I want to be able to buy the complete edition before the discount ends.

Message from Steam Support on Dec 5 @ 10:44am | 2 days ago
I can look into this for you.

I see that sale has now ended.

In order for you to buy the complete Edition, you will need to remove your existing copy.

You can remove your own game subscriptions by following these instructions:

Log in to your Steam account here: https://help.steampowered.com/
Use the Search field to find any games you want to remove.
Click on "I want to permanently remove this game from my account"

Please let me know if I can help clarify anything else.

Best Regards,
Mark

But the sale has ended. It was very cheap to buy the complete edition back then. If I remove the game from my account, will I be able to buy the complete edition at that discounted price?

Message from Steam Support on Dec 7 @ 12:29pm | 59 minutes ago
I understand you wanted to be able to benefit from the Sale promotion, but promotions that have expired cannot be offered at a later time and Steam Support cannot modify the terms of a transaction for a single user.

Removing your existing game will not grant you a discounted price.

Add this game to "Wishlist" on Steam and we'll let you know by email or through our mobile app when the games on your Wishlist are on sale as a Daily Deal, Midweek Madness or Weekend Deal.

Please let me know if I can help clarify anything else.

This feels more like a way of trying recoup the losses on this failed game by screwing people with the DLC. Great way to start the Choice gimmick, Humble.
