It's only short if you don't explore. The story and the game do expand the the deeper you go. In short it's going to take no less then 8hrs that ends with a great boss fight.

it always depends how you play. it took me over 23 hours to reach 100%. if you go only for the story, i would say ruffly 8 hours like most games are.

Another point I wanted to make, in Thief14, some area's or parts of the map did not open or unlock until you highlighted them. In Shadow it's kind'a the same way. If you miss talking to someone you could miss doing that part of the game and not know till it's over.

I'm playing rise now, got this lined up after. Got around 19 hours on Rise of the Tomb Raider and I have 35% completed. Going 100% makes a difference

On https://howlongtobeat.com/ you can see the average time people took to beat main story, it''s pretty much the same xD
and don't forget, we still have 7 DLCs coming up

It's only short if you just blaze through the main story without exploring and doing side stuff.

It's definitely much larger, but there's rarely anything ever standing in your way or stopping you from doing something. Most of the content in Shadow is based around collecting artifacts, reading murals, and solving puzzles. Because of the lack of resistance you face, it's pretty easy to just ignore large chunks of the game. While the rewards often flesh out the backstory, they're borderline pointless gameplay-wise.

Rise was more of a shooter, albeit a fairly easy one. The combat-based rewards didn't offer nearly as much backstory, but they provided immediately usable items that affected gameplay.

Depending on how you approach things, either could be seen as shorter/longer. If you do absolutely everything, they're not that different in length.
