Black wolf

So on the path to the hidden city; very near to the hidden city, right when you hear a man either breaking his leg or blowing his load I went off path and found a wolf/jackal den. Most were orange, one was black. I got mauled in my first encounter due to a failed QTE.
When I went straight back, wanting to (naturally as an archaeologist does, murder all the wildlife, skin them and make them into neat clothes) I saw only one orange wolf it attacked me and things finished faster for it than a virgin in brothel. There was no mysterious black wolf to be seen however.
Did I ruin the encounter or will fast travelling out and back un-♥♥♥♥ things?

They'll respawn after some time. Not necessarily right away. Say, give it a few dozen minutes of game-time or between several fast travels. Black wolves (found in several different locations) do respawn all the time, just not as instantly as many birds.

The wolves are the only enemies that regenerate to kill over and over.
If memory serves, there's 2 other places in the game where black wolves appear.

The leopard does also, go back to the area where you killed the legendary creature(sorry forgot it's name)...the one that they covered in armour
