People who say the graphics are ugly..
I wonder to all those people complaining about bad/ugly graphics.
- Are you playing at max settings?
- Which resolution do you play on?

I myself have set every setting possible at max. And game at 1440p res, and the game looks absolutely stunning! Some of the BEST shadows that I have seen in any game. The jungles feel alive and real. Great detail for the plants and trees, foliage look amazing as well.

Almost every single texture in the game is detailed and looks beautiful.
Rise of the Tomb Raider looks rather dull in comparison.

Maybe just me, but framerate alone ends it.

I'm currently in the Peruvian Jungle and I also have the problem that the look of the game is somehow a mixture of "washed-out" and "feel-too-dark". First I thought that it's just a problem of calibrating brightness, gamma and contrast correctly but having played around with the settings for half an hour I finally gave up. Then I though it could be my brand new 32" monitor, but this has a sharp and colorful IPS panel... anyhow I started Rise of TR to double-check and I realized that the look and image quality there is really totally different (meaning better). Compare it to the tomb in Syria which is also quite dark but it all looks crystal clear, nice colors and good illumination and shadows. So it must be Shadow of TR doing something different.

At the moment I'm not sure whether it's a bug or a feature. Maybe they wanted to give the jungle this look and actually the way it looks reminds me a little bit of the jungle in TR3. But anyhow, while the first hour of the game in Mexico and even the beginning in Peru was still high quality, it currently feels like a visual downgrade compared to Rise of TR. Even Lara itself and especially her skin and hair is not looking as good as in Rise. I hope that the visual quality will be fixed/improved by patches for the game and/or the graphics cards.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is crisper and sharper.
Two games, the same company, they didn't finish the job.
If they call it ultra textures and ultra level of detail they must finish the job.
Colors lighting and shadows are fine. We use Reshade & SweetFX.They give what we want in matter of colors ,lighting ,shadows ,gleam, shine & illuminance.

:steamhappy::steamhappy:

Except I disagree, and I say Rise doesn't look better.

Definitely debatable.

Yea right....the character model alone in Horizon has tons more detail and definition! And the overall image quality is much more clearer! And I almost think that Tomb Raider is running in the wrong color space! Definitely way too cartoony color as well.... Horizon spanks the new Tomb Raider in the graphics and overall image quality for sure...and trust me, it pains me to say that since I'm not generally a console fan at all!

Graphics are fine! I am gaming at 2k and there are some amazing vistas. But if you are just staring at one object up close than you are playing the game wrong. You have to look at the whole frame for it to look fine.

But it doesn't look much better.

Let's do something real, like compare Shadow of the Tomb Raider on PS4 vs. PC.

It's not really about PS4 vs PC.... I'm just giving an example of how bad this game looks in comparison to an older game running on inferior hardware. The platform is nearly irrelevant because I would expect it to also look better on the modern consoles as well! This is supposed to be a AA title from a long standing franchise and not some half baked no name game from a start up company.... Make sense?

You can't compare like that though?

You could technically say nothing's really beaten Crysis then. It's what, 11 years old?

And I would say yes, this is a triple A game. But it looks great in my opinion. I don't know wtf makes you happy if you think this game looks bad.

thank the lord i am not the only one who is having this problem. wtf is going on. everything is flat and grey, looks so bad. can anyone verify if this is a monitor issue, or graphics issue? i can't seem to change it at all to fix. so aggrevating.

Think looks bad? It does look bad...Look at the hair on Lara on this screenshot:

That lighting, color, and contrast is abysmal....

And then look at the hair on Aloy on the screenshot that I grabbed off my PS4:

Everything is better, the detail, lighting, color/contrast, texture...no comparison. Same with the arrow quiver. Compare the lighting, texture, color, etc. Same with the outfit and everything else...I have tons of screenshots from Horizon that will spank the new Tomb Raider in every single graphic and image quality comparison! You don't see the difference? Come on...how many company shills are on here...a blind man can clearly see how the new Tomb Raider looks bad for a brand new release running on high end hardware.....lol.

Totally agree, the graphics in shadows are horrible, no matter what settings (ingame and out) they look awful. In sunlight they are great, but muddy mess of blandness in shadow.

the game is a hdr showcase. it doesnt look great in sdr and you're honestly missing like half the package. The hdr is absolutely on point tho. Also to make it look better I just removed AA in game and used FXAA instead via nvidia control panel + transparency AA enabled

Textures by then are actually detailed, not the blurry mess you get with msaa

Something just isn't right, compare Witcher 3 to Shadow of Tomb Raider, just captured. Witcher was at night (no lights) and Tomb Raider was daytime in shadows:

It's as if the rendering light set used for areas in shadows are OFF...whatever the reason, it's a tough slog to play looking like this. Pretty much a mess.
