Huge frame drops
So I have GTX1080, I play with 2k resolution, highest settings and I get 55 to 60 fps.
But every now and then I have huge frame drops, down to 5 fps in cutscenes, menus, and during gameplay.
Does anyone else had these drops? It ruins the experience for me, I usually don't complain but this is too much.

I'm on Windows v1607 , 399.24 Nvidia driver and I too get massive fps drops.(with both single and multiple 1080ti's ) I have several high end rigs with 980ti's , 1080's and they too get fps drops. Monitoring with MSI afterburner I can tell that frametime often "skips" randomly . ( Not during loading cut scenes ) This stuttering or frame dropping is the game engine... not your rig.EVERYONE HAS FRAME SKIPS but not everyone is noticing it.... Dev's have said they're working on a fix .

Yeah I have a 1080Ti and also getting drops, game runs with everything maxed out at over 60 FPS constantly at 1440p but when entering new areas it drops FPS like crazy in DX12, I already had this problem with Rise of the Tomb Raider and switching to DX11 fixes it.

DX11 IS BROKEN
Maxentropy Sep 13, 2018 @ 9:08pm
DX12 is broken. Changing to DX11 solved the massive lag spikes/drops. Note that you must restart the game for DX to change from 12 to 11.

Changing thread to high priority did nothing while in DX12.

Please fix soon-- DX12 looks much better but the game is unplayable in DX12 right now.

Okay, so for those with capable systems and is using GeForce GPU, I would recommend the following things to try to fix the stutter issue.
1. Download and install older driver from NVidia, 398.XX seems to be working better than 399.XX in my case.
2. Restart Steam and then restart the game
3. Set SOTTR.exe priority to high in task manager, under details tab
4. Run without DX12

In my case, these fix the stutter issue I was having with my 1080Ti. Could be only one of the 4 listed above that actually fixes it, or a combination of them, idk. Feel fry to try and narrow it down if you want to, and let us know!

I don't see any difference in visuals between 11 or 12.

there isn't. thats why. dx12 merely spreads cpu load better than 11 does.

exactly same for me. same specs, also only 55-80 fps.
but dx11 is worse for me than dx12

System is chill, 12 gb ram, 1080 gtx, 77 fps and then a 10 second freeze, every now and then, loading problems? am having a ssd o.0
asmodius Sep 14, 2018 @ 12:17pm
so checkes system, CPU is on 100% on those drops, on all cores/threads. using dx11, win7

CORRECTION, yes no change in graphics quality but switching to DX11 stopped the lag spikes/drops.

DX12 and nvidia dont really mix in most game

Usually the drops occur when loading a new zone.. so I've noticed.
