jump + throwing climbing axe broken in one spot?
I'm at somewhere around 60% completion, just got the overhead climbing gear, and when I get to the end of the overhang where she says "I'll have to jump" doing so comes up about two meters short. Space + E, no matter how I 'time it' jumping from that final spot she doesn't even come CLOSE to getting that thrown axe + cable into the opposing wall. In fact it looks like it starts retracting before it even comes anywhere NEAR it.

AT 40+ deaths deep on this one spot (annoying when the stupid autosave BS is a good half minute before it, FFS just let us save when we flipping want!) I'm ready to walk away.

NEVER had a problem like this up to this point in this game, and I've played both the 2014 and Rise, as well as the first original three. It's not like my playing skills aren't up to this.

I've tried jumping directly, rappelling down to see if I could use momentum to get closer, trying to see if I can get any farther up and to the left -- NOTHING.

Strange to get this deep into the game and be utterly stopped dead in my tracks by this one simple thing -- I've even watched videos of people making it across just fine so whisky tango foxtrot?!?

Lemme guess, I'm being penalized for using a quality keyboard and mouse instead of one of those crappy re-re game controllers that only fit the hands of five-year-olds? (ANOTHER of the reasons I have no kind words for consoles and console gamers...)

Picture I found online of the exact spot in question. Most of the time when jumping the grapple is so far off she might as well be in another flipping time zone. The CLOSEST I've gotten it still misses by about a yard.

you're doing it wrong.

Fact, your either too low or the wrong spot. Repositon and try again.

I actually just had it work, but it was TOTAL glitch -- went as normal, but I hit "E" again after she was already way, WAY below and she cast out the line a second time at the wall way-way-way down (like just before she would have died) and boom, glitched up and she was standing at the top.

:/

REALLY not impressed with that one spot in an otherwise great game.

The KB/M is very unforgiving, if your not looking or you throw it out to soon or late, it fails. It's not a panic press or a tap, tap, tap thing. If you look rite at the hook point, you will see that split second where you throw the grapple out. It will catch every time.

Yeah, I had trouble at that point as well. It just worked eventually, and I think the reason why is what Thumper said, which I figured out during the last mission of the game. You have to actually aim the hook to some extent with where you are looking. It rarely comes up and the game doesn't tell you this, but I'm pretty sure its a thing as it would explain a lot of what felt like inconsistencies.

At least I'm not the only one with this problem ... This was a really annoying jump. You need to jump, then aim the camera smack in the middle of the rock wall, then press E to attach. Died like 20 times at first, then did this and it worked first time.

Oh plz don't feel special, your learning 2 new skills playing TR, missing grabs n free falling is the new norm now. I'm betting you, like me, don't like these new found skills.

Thing is, it was ONLY this one spot where such "newfound skills" even seems to exist. One place. It's a non-issue anywhere else in the game which otherwise controls just like Rise did. I see no practical difference apart from that one spot.

Since it seems to be the only place where I you have to screw with the camera mid-jump and/or glitch past the spot.

Actually if on Deadly Obsession, there are two spots that actually "glitch" while using her grapple axe.
The 1st spot is this one and I have yet to figure out a work around.
The 2nd spot is the "grapple around a corner" on the lead up to the boss fight. In this sequence, Lara jumps side-ways and always misses the jump (and dies and back to a campfire). However if you quickly press jump, then W (to get Lara to face the correct way) then E to throw the axe.
I'm about to try this technique with this jump too, when I get back to it, after redoing this tomb 5 times yesterday.

My comment about the new found skills are meant in a lite-hearted manner, to ease the burden they put on you, me, us. There is a setting in the options to change how the camera centers. I have yet tried using it and don't know if in fact it has any baring here.

And here I thought I was alone in this spot. Can't get the deadly obsession achievement due to not being able to get that jump (I'm using keyboard and mouse). It's fine on easy mode by just pressing the forward key, but on deadly obsession, she just won't grab the rocky wall.
Oh well.

You can always try what I did for the runup to the boss. The around the corner grapple? Press space to jump, quickly press W (to face her properly) and then E to grapple.

I can now confirm that on Deadly Obession that I finally nailed the last "gap" jump at the end of Cetnote.
Jump left and immediately press the W (to turn her body to face the wall)) and press E.
While using this combonation, I made the jump the first time.

I wrote a topic some time back about changing key commands in TR. At that time the E n F keys were not an issue when playing. But today it is. Seems if you use a key other then E, you can miss the grapple, not the grab, but throwing out the grapple. If your using W,A,S,D, the E can be alittle hard to hit. Also some KB allow for only 1 key to be pressed or it gets confussed or fails. The mouse can also effect what happens due to human error, in other words release everything before hitting that E, by doing that I found even alittle off target she still make's the grab. The last stage of that climb can get somewhat stressfull, it's not a glitch or bug per-say just because most are having problems with it. Sometimes that "new found skill" is more burden then blessing.

For me the jump at that corner was not so bad. But the jump after that to the overhead grab was.
Thanks guys, I was having a hard time with this grapple-axe and KB/M on different spots, It was so frustrating ! You’ve helped make it clearer for me, and I 've just succeeded where I was stuck :cozybethesda:
