When do I get access to the shotgun?

What is the earliest point in the game when I can get the shotgun? Need it for some locked areas.

It's quite late, you can't miss it as when you get it there is shortly a place where you need it to proceed in story.

I don't remember exactly where that was.

the area is called Cenote. the area is locked by story progression.
as for the shotgun, you can't miss it. the story will just give it to you during a brief cutscene.
