Rope Ascender, Lockpick, Reinforced Knife?

1) is the Rope Ascender, Lockpick and Reinforced Knife only available through a merchant or do you get those items through normal story progression?...I thought the merchants were just for bonus items like new outfits, weapons, ammo etc or to buy the items earlier...what important items need to be purchased? in the previous games you get all the gear you need through normal story progression

2) is there any way of viewing all the Challenges in a particular area (Find 4 Condor eggs, dive off 4 platforms etc) without discovering each one individually?...with the previous games you could view what the challenges were for the area right from the beginning (it doesn't tell you where they are located, just what they are) but with Shadow it seems you need to find them on your own before they even get displayed in your inventory/map

I know you can get the knife from a side quest in eastern Paititi (Temple area)

All the items can be gained through side missions.

Reinforced knife is the safe Hakan side mission in upper district.
Lockpick and rope ascender through the lost dice mission >you meet merchant during that mission

but you don't get the lockpick and rope ascender after completing the mission...you still have to buy it from the merchant

Yes. Hence I said; you meet the merchant through the mission.

I don't think it's random. I think she moves when your main story moves forward. She stayed in that first spot for me until I progressed my main story, despite it taking an hour or two.

what about the Challenges?...are you able to view all of them in your map/diary from each area without first discovering them on your own?

Some of them do show up on one of the tabs. Have to select it then click on the Challenges and it will show how many you've gotten out of how many total. They only show up once you've found at least one of the set though.

She can be found in the upper district when you go to save Unuratu.
She can be found in the mission of San Juan near the most southern tomb.

I haven't been able to find her. game is complete and she doesnt appear to exist anymore... maybe i will just do the newgame+ and get her on the next goaround.

Well, I found her in those locations when they were opened up through the story.

She should be spawning in several locations after you finished it.

One outcast has the acender and the knife upgrade is with a mercant in the market district.
the outcast also has the lockpicks, the dice quest is all you need.

She can be found after the dice quest as well, since not everyone will have the coin needed for it when they meet her for the first time.

well i have completed the dice quest, the problem is that at that time i did not buy the lockpick and the rope ascender.

ps. Since she can also go to Kuwak Yaku, a place before Paititi, it doesn't seem like she is following your story progress as suggested earlier in this thread.
