How is the "upgrade" system this time around?
I have purposefully avoided reading anything about the game so that it'll all be fresh once I start.
I enjoyed being able to upgrade my items, weapons in the previous games. How is it this time around? Is it more in-depth? Are there more than item/weapon upgrades?

Thanks in advance!

in comparsion to rise the upgrading system is pretty much the same. the variety of ressources is increased and in addition to weapons you can also craft outfits.
all in all same system just a bit more of it.

All weapons are basically the same. You are going to use the bow 85% of the game, specially after the first half since you can't change you outfit or equip weapons at all.

Lara's skills and upgrade paths are nice, I liked it. And you can unlock more outfits and new skills in a new game +.

The problem is that there is not enough enemies to have fun with her new skills and the weapons are kinda redundant.

I only use the shotgun to unlock new areas that are sealed with wood haha The rifle is you go to for every situation and the pistol is kinda meh only use it if you rifle run out of ammo.

They are rrrrrreeeallly trying this time more than ever to shove the bow gimmick down our throats. It's also meh because there's lika a houndred different bows and they are all the samein the end, just boring.

The only way to get the best and most unique bow (IMHO) is to start a new game + and select one of the paths.

Edit: I forgot you can craft new costumes with different passive abilites BUT you cant use them most of the time otherwise you wont be able to start missions or talk to npc's to unlock new missions because your outfit is not what the game wants you to wear.

What's worse is that the bow just feel really lackluster. For a game that really wants you to spend so much time using it, they should have spend a lot more effort making it fun.

Since the last Tomb Raider game, we've had Horizon Zero Dawn and more recently Monster Hunter World, and while those games are not the same as TR of course, they are both examples where using a bow is just tons of fun and feels amazing. After trying those, the bow in this game just feels bland and boring.

Yeah, they tried to make the bow her thing but they didn't get it to work. It's really out of place in a alot of the situations. The dual pistols need to return it's her trademark =/

Stealth game now, mostly. Not a lot of combat, hence not a lot of use for weapons. I like the change but it may not be in everyone's tastes.

One change compared to Rise is that each weapon has to be upgraded individually. No shared upgrades.

Wow, thanks for all the input! I have to say, I'm a little surprised. I didn't expect the third entry into the reboot to be more stealth focused. I really enjoyed the combat in the previous games. It doesn't sound like it went full Splinter Cell, thankfully.

Those of you that also enjoyed the combat in the previous games, does the slower pace, less frequent combat and increase in stealth take away from the experience for you guys?
