Eye of the serpent difficulty crossing the raging torrent (some spoilers)

I've got to the point where you get onto the little island and have to jump over the raging torrent using the grappling hook on the tree.

Every time I've tried so far I end up either (a) missing with the grappling hook entirely or (b) occasionally connecting, then swinging a bit further across the river and then something happens to the tree by the sounds of it and I get dumped in the raging torrent again (on the other side of the river, but still in it).

I can do the bit before that like nobodies business now, I've repeated it so many times. But this bit is getting me down.

just had to keep retrying till it worked :-(

I don't think difficulty affects that section at all, is more about timing.

The jump-grapple move is always this: press jump-(release jump)-throw grapple. it takes a bit of practice to get the timing. sometimes you have to do this more than once in a row. just know that the grapple button does not work properly if you are still holding jump. (the momentum from the jump is still there)
