Game crash can't open file pcx-w\wp_bow_recurve.neutral.drm steam

Game crashes on startup with error "can't open file pcx-w\wp_bow_recurve.neutral.drm steam" , Removed and re-downloaded the game but still same issue .

You have to go offline mode in steam then run the game.

WHY does this work?
Has anyone found a real fix? I don't want to go offline every time I wanna play. Also, if you're offline, you can't do DLC content.

I have this problem too now. I played the game fine for one week, even finished it once. Started a new playthru, all working fine. The next day I get this error and the game crashes soon after pushing play. Nothing changed from the day before when it worked fine.

It does play in offline mode, but I can't get it to start in online mode. Any fix for this yet?

I’ve reinstalled and tried verifying the game files. No dice. I’ll try disabling the steam layover.

No it doesn’t work.

If I change various setting, turn things off or on and try to start, I get a slightly different error. The item part in the error code will change. The rest stays the same, saying the file couldn't be opened.

have you tried closing steam altogether and right clicking steam -> run as admin

i have looked into this error and it seems that steam cannot access your directory

/sigh that did not work either. I don't understand what changed. I was playing one night, went to work the next day, tried to play again that night and got this error. Thanks for the suggestions though, this is driving me nuts. And why will it start in offline mode but not online mode.

I have noticed that when I start in offline mode, after selecting play it loads the warning screen then the screen with all the trademarks and stuff. However when I try to load in online mode, it no longer shows the warning screen. Its just all black, then goes to the trademarks screen, then crashes. It used to show that screen when loading, when it actually worked.

If when the game crashes does it create crash dump file? If you upload it and link to it here, myself or someone can have look at it and see if that sheds any light on it?

I’ve put in a customer support request for help. Hopefully they know what’s going on.
