The Sinking City | New version out now | F.A.Q.
Hey everyone,

The latest version of The Sinking City is now available on Steam. It's free for the existing owners, and it comes with the previous bug fixes and optimizations.

Keep in mind that

- due to several technical reasons, your old saves aren't compatible with this version.
- Your Necronomicon Edition is now Deluxe Edition
- Owners of Necronomicon \ Deluxe editions get the new DLC for free within 24 hours of the release of the latest version.

Please read the F.A.Q. to learn more about the changes and how they may affect you.

Q. What's included inside the new version of The Sinking City?
A. The new version includes the bugfixes and optimizations previously released for the game on other platforms. Essentially, it's a patch. The reason we are calling it a new version is to emphasize the fact that it will exist alongside the current version for some time.

Q. Is this new version free for everyone?
A. Yes.

Q. Will my saves work with the new version?
A. No.

Q. But what if I don't want to lose all my progress and start a new game when the new version is released?
A. We're keeping the current version until February 28th, 2024. When you launch the game from Steam, you will see this window[prnt.sc].

From there, you can choose the version you want to play.

Q. But I want to play the new version without having to start from scratch.
A. We've prepared saves for you to download and continue your playthrough in the new version, they’re available here[drive.google.com].
To add saves to the game, simply download the ones you need and put the files into the %localappdata%\TSCGame\Saved\SaveGames folder.

Q. Are there any visual enhancements or gameplay updates in this new version?
A. No. That’s not to say we are not considering it in the future.

Q. Will the new version affect the game's system requirements?
A. No.

Q. Do you also plan to release the DLC that is available on other platforms?
A. Yes, all 3 DLC (Merciful Madness, Chicago Organ Grinder, and XP Boost) are available now to purchase.

Q. Will the owners of the Necronomicon edition get the DLC for free?
A. Yes. The DLC will be released within 24 hours for the owners of the Necronomicon edition. Due to certain limitations we were facing, we were forced to add the DLC directly to the Investigator Pack, rather than as separate items.

To make sure you have the DLC, please check that you have the golden Tommy gun in your weapons menu.

Also, your Necronomicon Edition is now Deluxe Edition, though it's only a cosmetic change in the name only.

Q. So does Merciful Madness now include Silence is Golden? I already had that before as part of my base game.
A. Yes, Silence Is Golden was always supposed to be part of Merciful Madness, and now due to certain technical and publishing reasons (which we are not going to bore you with), we had to remove it from the base game and include it inside MM.

BUT!

The owners of the standard edition now receive a new side quest in return (Darling of Fortune) for free.

The owners of Deluxe Edition, in turn, receive the rest of the Merciful Madness quests (Defunct Brain Cylinders & Fool's Gold), as well as Chicago Organ Grinder and XP boost for free.

Q. Are you planning to sell this DLC (Chicago, MM and XP) separately?
A. Yes.

Q. Is this DLC going to work with the existing version of the game?
A. No.

Q. If I bought the DLC that is available now (Worshippers of the Necronomicon, Investigator Pack), will it work with the new version of the game?
A. Yes.

Q. I previously bought the game as a standalone build on Gamesplanet, will I be granted a Steam key as well for free?
A. Yes. Gamesplanet will reach out to you soon - please contact them if you have any questions or issues.

Q. Are you adding new store functionality with the new version?
A. Yeah, Trading cards and cloud saves.

Q. Will this new version include Denuvo?
A. No.

Will you be removing Denuvo from the new version?

Bought the game during the winter sale hoping that you will, but I'll be returning it if not.

I've got 10 days left... hopefully the new version will be out by then, and I can see for myself, but if it comes out later and you promise it'll be Denuvo-free, that'll do.

Thank you for the FAQs. Please add Epic store buyers left with a product without store page and support eligible for a free Steam key...? (unless support on ES is resumed) We were the first to support you there...

Glad to see you're adding cards and cloud saving!

Don't add another entry in the game library - just replace the old version with the new. There is not much to lose, Valve did it with much more popular game - CS GO / CS2. It's pointless to have 2 versions of the same game.

Another piece of "evidence" is that this new version will probably just be the version Frogwares have sold separately on their own website and a few other places, and that one didn't have Denuvo as far as I've heard-- ALSO, Nacon implemented Denuvo into their steam version, so Nacon would have been the ones to sign whatever licensing deal they made with Denuvo, so Frogwares would have to make their own new agreement I think with Denuvo, and I don't see that happening, so "removing" (in essence just deleting old repo/branch, uploading entire new one based on their version from their own website) seems even more probable.

Too bad there won't be any changes in graphics. I was expecting at least tweaks from the current console versions (although I have many reservations about them).

Excellent news, thank you!

So the point of this version is only some bug fixes? Bcs I remember that you previously released some version with enhanced visuals for consoles, why is it not included in the new version right from the start?

It's mid January.

The base price just doubled and now there's a Steam Cloud tag on the store. Something is definitely happening soon.

So happy I got this when the game was still reasonably priced, the new price is just madness.

USD price hasn't changed. Guess there's something weird going on with regional pricing.

There is something going on with regional pricing, UK has gone up £3 but the Norwegian Kroner (amongst quite a few others) has doubled. Although it's worth bearing in mind the original pricing wasn't set by Frogwares so they're probably adjusting it to what their preferred SRP should be in all regions.

I was pretty sure it would rise since we'll get a better version. Besides, a game in a 90% or higher sale is a good deal!

Exactly, yet after the game and its DLC were x2 times cheaper in a lot of countries since the game came out in 2019, and now 5 years later, raising the price of a 5-year-old game and its DLC twice it was before... You can guarantee that the game won't have any reasonable amount of sales in these particular regions where the price was increased, but it's not against the law, so I just gonna ignore it.
Given they discount Sherlock Holmes Chapter One by 80% in all regions it's not unreasonable to think than whenever they next put it on sale it will have a decent discount. And quite frankly you can't argue that Norway should have had such a cheap price from launch.
