Steam cloud error but no cloud sync?

I lost my progress on my steam deck due to a steam could error but the game has no cloud sync. How is that possible and how do I prevent that from happening again?

Cloud errors seem to be a well known problem.
Are your saves still there? Try restarting the deck.
And for games with no sync it's advisable to backup your saves regularly.

Saves are lost. Restart changed nothing. Trying now to backup on a regular basis. Thx.

I know this post is a month old. But the game doesn't have cloud save.
