That's the real reason why they sold out to epic. They knew how bad this piece of ♥♥♥♥ is. The knew it was utter garbage and wanted the guaranteed pay because they can't cut it as a gaming studio. I really hope Stygian: Reign of the Old Ones doesn't turn out to be as ♥♥♥♥ as this thing. I've been waiting for that game for years and will gladly wait another two if it means its good. This game though, I won't even consider it when it comes to steam for a $1.
So ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ happy I didn't buy this piece of ♥♥♥♥. It was going to be a day 1 buy for me, too. Saved me so much money.
2. The monsters are garbage. There are like 3 monster models, and they are as GENERIC as they come. The little quick fodder monster, the monster that rushes you and is tanky, and the monster that spits projectiles. And the models look god awful, basically look like blobs of flesh with no detail.
3.There is a major discrepancy with characters in game. Everyone goes about their business walking calmly as there is an infestation zone within view across the street with monsters prowling. The main character has never seen the monkey people or Innsmouther fish folk before yet doesnt act surprised at all when he sees a talking ape-man. Its ridiculous. He says like one thing in a monotone voice like "oh Ive never seen someone that looks like you before." WTF? He should be shocked that such a thing even exists.
4. Interiors are sparse and undetailed. 99% of buildings cant be entered and its hard to tell which ones you can go into without activating the eldritch vision to see the hobo signs, which drains sanity when using it and slows you down making it inconvenient. This means constant bumping into doors as you have to walk up to every single one and push into it to see if it opens or not.
5. Side quests are garbage fetch quests, at least the ones I found. One wanted me to go across town and fetch a ship manifest, aka go search for a piece of paper for the reward of 10 bullets for your pea shooter 38 pistol. No thanks.
I completely forgot this game existed until I saw jim sterlings video on it. Looked it up on steam saw the 2020 release date, and thought well that's another game I won't be buying.
Some more book or letter-hunting? thats not very interesting though....
The most funniest thing was when i found a house (through Oakmont paper-hunt) and it was exactly the same as the first investigated house, where the monkey-mans sun broke throught the wall. And this ques-t house had the same wrecked floor at the same spot, the same boat inside, the same hole in the wall. Devs must be low on creativity....
this game has no atmosphere for me.
I don't understand why this is a problem. His visions have nothing to do with his time in the Navy and aren't caused by PTSD. He's having visions because he literally has a bit of eldritch physically inside of him and... did you even play the game? He's one of few people that can release Cthulhu's daughter from her prison. Of COURSE he's having visions and hallucinations. His Navy background I think is more to explain how he knows how to dive.
Edit: Oh I almost forgot, the main flaw was the ending... I mean you have always atleast 3 options how to deal and complete main quest but in the end it doesn't even matter what choices you made because at the end you can just choose whatever ending you like, it would be better if some of them were locked because of the choices you made on the journey.
The quests are telling nice stories but are very repetitive, if you have played one quest than you know how the others will be solved (always the same procedure).
The action is boring because you fight the same 3-4 creatures all the time, the open world is a core because all the running around from one scene to another.
Story and atmosphere is good the rest medicore at best, the sherlock holmes games was way better (at least crimes and punishment).
I know right? No enemy variation and half the game is running from one address to the other
And Devil's Daughter is still far ahead of this.
Every quest : Arrive at X place. Click on everything until you're told you got all evidence. Play the "what happened" game. Search for next address, continue until case finished.
And also this "what happened" game was used in the recent Call Of The Cthulhu game also. , This Cthulhu game is a waste of time.
Hmm.. this crate was moved, there was a guard up and a harpoon on the wall. Could... the thief have tried to steal something but was stopped by the guard? Oh, cool, that was it.
I'm near the end and haven't missed a single one of these.
Also, unlike the Sherlock games where the archive activity is at ONE CONVENIENT LOCATION (his appartment or the baggages he brought) you have to guess "City hall? Hospital records? Police records? Press records?" and visit the according building. It adds nothing to the game besides being tedious as hell.
