I don't recall any fight lasting more than like 3-5 minutes.
Now, 650k or 450k or even 250k is still a lot, but by that point you do indeed have the opportunity to do huge amounts of damage.
A heavy hitter like Laura, Gaius, Sara or Millium with Tauros at lvl 4 or 5 and Domination and as much + Str from Quartz, accessories etc as possible, using a 200 CP S craft while having Str + 50% (from spells like Forte or Crafts like Rean's Motivate or Jusis' Noble Command) can do 200-300k damage in one hit.
Pretty much the same is true for a Caster Like Emma or Elliot with Pandora, Hades, as much + Ats from quartz etc. and Ats +50% from spells/crafts.
Of course, you don't have all that at the beginning, but then enemies have more modest amounts of HP too, and the principle is the same: Stack as much physical or magical attack power on a character as you can, buff them to the max at the beginning of the fight, then use your strongest attacks.
Oh, and delaying attacks, a lot of +Spd and Chrono Burst will allow you to execute this principle without enemies getting more than a single turn; if that much. In fact, once you get this strategy down, your main 'problem' will be that you need to spend a number of turns to scan all the enemies, assuming you care about that in the first place.
It fills in entries in the monster notebook, which can grant rewards in CS 2.
Elliot and Emma also have the Detector crafts, which can debuff enemy stats (depending on the enemy's resistance to stat-down effects).
As Stabbey says, scanning is getting all the information on an opponent in the Notebook. This information can be gained passively, since it is partially filled in whenever you fight an opponent, so for normal monsters you will probably complete it just by fighting them several times. (I always do scan them actively, just to be sure.)
For bosses however passive scanning doesn't work, as you only fight them once (and even if they return later in the game, that'll be a different entry). So you need to scan them actively.
Active scanning can be done in one of 3 (4) ways:
1): With the Analyse Spell
2): With Elliot or Emma's 'Detector' Craft
3): With a Battle Scope Consumable Item
( 4): By defeating them with a character with the Dragon Vision quartz. I never use this, as it's too unreliable)
For bosses, I always use Battle Scopes, since (unlike the Detector craft) they can be used by anyone and (unlike the Analyse Spell) they don't cost any time to go into effect.
- Their elemental weaknesses/resistances to different spells
- What types of physical attacks are more likely to unbalance them to let you get follow-up attacks
- Their weaknesses/resistances to status ailments
Those are useful things to know. If you don't know them, it can mean wasting time on spells enemies are resistant to, choosing an enemy from a group which is less likely to be unbalanced by that character's attack instead of one which is more likely, and using status ailments enemies are immune to and missing which ones they are weaker to.
Obviously, if you're using the wrong attacks or ailments on the wrong enemies, that's going to lengthen the time it takes to win the battle.
Ps. Even on nightmare this game are easier then final fantsy final Xiv is on the easiest difficulty "when we also think on taking down every legendary for/monster..
