One of the most brutal battles in the entire series.

McBurn's S-craft will negate magical barriers such as the Crescent Mirror art and Emma's Crescent Shell. His attacks also inflict burn, which requires someone on healer duty like Elliot with Holy Song. McBurn can also cast a Lost Art.

There is a way to shortcut this battle using the classic delay strategy. Pick a character with an impede attack (such as Rean or Fie) and stack up their speed and delay values (for delay, use quartz with the Impede stat). Impede does two things: it 1. gives the character's attacks a chance to delay the target's turn, and 2. has a chance to interrupt the target if they are casting an art. Combined with stacking speed, you can try to maximize the number of turns your characters will get versus enemy turns, giving you more breathing room to recover from McBurn's devastating attacks and to buff up to kill him.

For the adds, you can cast the Adamantine Shield and Crescent Mirror arts (or Jusis' Platinum Shield and Emma's Crescent Shell) to reflect their attacks back at them. Adamantine Shield and Platinum Shield reflect physical attacks, and Crescent Mirror and Crescent Shell reflect magical attacks. Nice for dealing with the adds, but with McBurn on your back you will have to refresh them.

Good luck!

I just beat him, I think it was just luck. I'm playing on normal, should I be fine playing cold steel 3 on normal.

Alisa with Angel level 5 and the Golden Bell quartz. Angel level 5 grants the user two 100% revives with +200CP and some (maybe complete) EP regeneration. She can survive the S-Craft, then can immediately cast and complete casting Seraphic Ring before McBurn's next turn to bring everyone back up, then use one of her buff crafts to give characters CP regen and Insight to help get them back to fighting strength..

I think you will be fine, this game isn't that hard at least in normal, it just you need to come prepared when fighting some boss cause some party member is more suited for certain enemy.

If you don't mind some pointer you could play the game with a walkthrough guide.

The Delay ability is so broken in this game that all bosses that aren't immune to it are a cakewalk provided you survive any one-shot-kill-entire-party attacks, which Alisa is insured with Angel to do so at least twice. You can even use the Lost Art that doubles everyones top HP which also makes it much easier to survive.

I just buffed Laura as much as possible. Maxed str and ended with near 3000, Thauros masterquartz for x2.5 dmg, add 2x dmg for the first attack, buff her in battle with +50% str, use overdrive with 20% more dmg and then use her S-Craft. Mc Burn down to 20% health.
Then just spam the S-Craft of the rest of the team dont forget to use the reserve Characters. Mc Burn done.

He was pretty tough, but I think the white boss in the old school house is harder. I haven't managed to beat it yet.

Do you know a way to kill Loa Luciferia? I think he's much harder than Mcburn. He's the only boss that made me think about giving up.

I have to agree, after delaying the Magic Knight in glacial Shrine to more then 400 Delay. delay is Broken, even when the enemy has 90% delay resistance, if you put more then 5 source of delay and abuse arc's slash,, its only a matter of time before the enemy is delayed and will never get the chance to move.

Edit : I do mean, every fight, INCLUDING vermillion's fight can be passed by delay.

You can easily have 6 source, Black Virtue, Rean's Arc's slash, Zeus Gem, Impede 2, Impede 1, Raven MQ,

However, Loa luciferia is immune to at delay.
For this one, I just equiped Towa with good Quartz, like Bhrama Gem and used Claim Solarah while linking her with an Art supporter, like Jusis. and don't forgot to increase their speed.
For exemple. Equipe everyone in your party with abyss Shadow, its 20 speed, action 3/ shadow blade R quartz. and etc. more speed = better chance.

You can dodge the boss' S-craft. Stack evasion on characters to 50 and then cast Shining (or Alisa's Heavenly Gift) on them for that last 50 boost, making your evasion 100 and dodging every physical attack.
If you are being killed by the add's arts magic, you can use the Wing, Katze, and Mirage master quartz to evade/absorb incoming magic damage. Combined with high evasion, you will be pretty much invincible, and it will only be a matter of how long it takes to kill the boss.
Just like with Nosferatu, you can break out a character who was eaten by the boss by dealing enough damage to the boss. An S-Craft or two should do it, though I recommend you save them for nuking adds.

==========================================================

Rean the Untouchable build (evade all physical and magical attacks)

Master Quartz
    Wing level 5 (+15% evade + 50% magic evade)

Quartz
    Aeolus Gem (+15% evade)
    Shining R (+5% evade)
    Shield 3 (+25% magic evade)
Wrath (counterattacks after dodging always crit)

Equipment
    Patterned Shirt (+20% evade)

Accessories
    Albion Garb (+25% magic evade)

100% magic evade
55% evasion (cast Shining on Rean during battle to get him to 100% evasion rate)

Throw whatever else you want on him.

Rean will never be hit so long as he has Shining up on him. He will be able to solo the boss given enough turns.

You can also stack Delay on him, and have him cast Arc Slash towards the adds, so the adds are delayed and won't be a problem.

==========================================================
    Nuker Rean

Use the Murakumo Master Quartz, stack as much STR as you can

During battle, pop Ogre mode (already comes with the 50% STR up buff), pop 200 CP S-craft

There goes half of the boss' health on your first turn, before the boss can even do anything.

This boss seems impossible even if I do that. My wing level is 3.

      Surviving

Alisa's Heavenly Gift can provide Shining and CP regen, and her Blessed Arrow is a 40% heal and provides 40 CP. However, her crafts are small AoEs, so you need to keep the party grouped up in order for her heals to affect multiple people. You can aim her heals though, so people don't need to be near Alisa.

Elliot's Holy Song is a 50% heal with a large AoE radius around himself. This gives you more leeway to get more people, but the party has to be near Elliot and he doesn't provide any bonuses like Shining or CP. I can be a good switch in emergency healer, assuming he is already topped up with CP.

Jusis is really useful because of his Noble Command (50% STR and SPD up, large radius around himself) and his Platinum Shield (nullify physical damage once, large radius around himself). Platinum Shield is especially useful on this fight because the boss' S-craft which sets everyone's health to 1, so the shield can prevent characters from dying to a followup attack.

You can use the Seraphic Ring art, which resurrects and heals everybody. Combine it with a large EP pool and fast arts casting times (use quartz and master quartz that cut casting times), you can brute force keep the party alive. Toval also has the Quick Caliber accessory, which cuts arts casting by half, if you don't want to use quartz slots to cut casting time. As said before, putting the Angel master quartz on the healer is a great fallback in case the healer dies.

      How to get more turns

Machias' Burst Drive craft gives everyone an additional turn, which can be invaluable for getting more turns to do things.

Remember, if you have characters who aren't using their EP, you can have them use the Chrono Drive art and get an additional turn for every 400 EP spent.

Don't forget the Grail Burst lost art (which you get from the optional superbosses in Act 2), which gives your entire party two additional turns.

Stack delay on characters with delay crafts like Rean (Arc Slash), Fie (Bullet Cyclone), or Gaius (Savage Fang), and use their delay crafts to delay the adds. This means you will only have to worry about damage coming from the boss.

      Dealing damage

Gaius' Wild Rage allows him to sacrifice health for a massive 90 CP boost, which means you can spam crafts like Savage Fang and get those pesky adds out of the way. Gaius pairs well with the Chevalier master quartz, which deals more damage the less health the wearer has, up to 150% more damage.

Millium, Sara, and Sharon have 4S s-crafts which hit all enemies on the field, great for taking out adds.

At the entrance of the Reverie Corridor, you can go to the pedestal by the elevator and buy Phantasmal Mirrors. When these accessories are equipped on a character, it replaces that character with a guest character. Crow has an ultra powerful 5S S-craft, and Vita has extremely powerful arts.
