The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II

is Duvalie SUPPOSED to be comic relief?
I mean shes powerful and is righteous and stuff....but I never took her as anything BUT comic relief. Reminds me of Ultros from FF6.

Overall she cracked me up a lot, hope to see more of her in the future.

IMO, Duvalie may be being setup for a heel-face turn[tvtropes.org] later on down the road. Although she idealizes the seventh, I seriously doubt she will be able to carry out morally wrong orders when Ouroboros[tvtropes.org] eventually calls for them to proceed with the plan. She may end up taking up arms against Ouroboros in the end, embodying the true honor attributed to her lord only in the legends. That's a character arc I'd be down for!

Sadly, the cynic in me believes that she is doomed to being a quirky comic relief anti-villain to bring levity to the arch villains, and will be forgotten after the seventh is killed off or otherwise leaves the story.

Definitely Comic Relief, she serves as the straight Man for both Mcburn and Bleublanc(and even Altina in that one optional conversation)

She will do anything her master (Arianrhod) commands her to do, not to mention she has already done some questionable things in CS2. So no, she will not take up arms against Ouroboros unless Arianrhod do so. By the way, Arianrhod's nickname is like "saint of steel", or somthing like that, and she has strong sense of justice and righteousness.

I do not believe the Society is the ultimate evil, CS2 pretty much reinforced the idea that they are not the bad guys. They are antagonists rather than villain.

Without spoiling anything, I'm just going to say Duvalie will play a more important role along with her companions and her master in CS3.

You never know.

To Duvalie her lord is everything. While yes for the most part she's been played as a comic relief mostly due to her being the straight man when compared with her companions , she is still an honorable knight. Remember a line at one point in the game:

(when we come to arrest duke alberea) "I am not here to help you , my lord would never acknowledge what you have done" , she says something like that. I don't know much about Arionhard for now BUT what I do know is that not everyone in ouroboros is evil. Wiseman is evil due to his twisted ways of proving a fact. But look at someone like Loewe. He is an honest person who helps Ouroboros because they give him a method to test humanity. For all we know Arionrhod has a reason to be in Ouroboros as well. Perhaps she saw something in grandmaster that made a loyal follower. Who knows .

He was a part of Ouroboros. And he is mentioned in CS 2 so I don't care about spoiling his name.

Loewe is Mcburn's best buddy, he is mentioned in CS2 a couple times

in CS3, you will visit his grave in Hamel

We don't go by how much we personally care about spoilers but by how many levels people browsing the forums care about untagged spoilers. FWIW I'm tracking every bit of news of CS4 since I'm not gonna bother playing the games and just want to know how the Erebonia arc will end while praying to Aidios the next arc won't have an abysmally simplistic gameplay. So it's not me having an issue with untagged spoilers but people other than me.

Remembering that you're talking with other people who have their own preferences and quirks can work wonders.

Dude, his name is mentioned in CS 2. And its just a name. I only mentioned a name hell the guy never even has a plot twist around him like seriously.

I really liked CS3's combat, much better than CS1 and CS2. Overall I think CS3 is the best trails game so far. I have no idea why you would skip CS3,4 if you have played the previous CS games.

If Rean's personal story doesn't interest you, then the motivation to sit through more of it just to find out how the overall Erebonian arc ends goes way down. If all you're interested in is the fallout of the confrontation that will take place in CS4, you don't necessarily need to play the games to find out.

CS3 is hardly just about Rean, there are a lot more going on, not to mention Rean is slightly better in CS3 than in CS2. I also found most of the students in branch II more interesting than the ones in original Thors.

It's like playing through Sky FC only to be bored by the pacing and then proceed to see SC's ending. You simply won't get the same experience. I'd rather skip CS1 and CS2 and go straight to CS3.

Well Duvalies "behaviour" was introduced in Trails to Azure, you only meet her once there but she's already weird in that event.
ZWabbit May 10, 2018 @ 12:16pm
Rean is still the player character through which we experience the events and whose decision making process dictates what we do in response. That means Falcom needs to sell Rean as a person worth following or caring about. For some of us, they didn't succeed. And if we can't derive any enjoyment from actually following the player character around, the ability to enjoy the overall story is also critically compromised. In that case it is entirely possible to enjoy the resolution of the Erebonian arc more if we don't have to put up with the problems of Rean's character.
