Recommended Controllers
RealFlight 8 requires a controller to run. There are a few options here:
  • For the best experience, we strongly recommend the InterLink-X™. RealFlight is designed for it, and your controls will all be exactly where they should be.

  • You can use your RC Radio with an interface. The RealFlight Wired Interface works well for this, and there are 3rd-party wireless interfaces available. This option will require more setup on your part.

  • You can use any 4-axis game controller. A gamepad will work, or an advanced flight stick. Your experience will not be as good as using a purpose-built RC radio, though.

Can I just use my Taranis hooked up with the USB cable as I do for Freerider? Or do I NEED to use the wired interface?

As long as your Taranis is seen by Windows as a Multi-Axis USB device it will work with Realflight 8. The Sticky also confirms this.

One thing to note.

People mistakenly assume that flipping a switch on an RC TX will send a signal to the sim.

This is ONLY true if the switch produces decrete channel mapped output.

On most real TX's you flip a switch and that affects what OTHER channels send out.
But the sim will not see the switch flip, it will only see the results on the channels already outputted.

This can be problematic for people trying to get IDLE UP and Heading HOLD to work as their TX's don't actually transmit a state change.

You can work around this by setting up a separate "Simulation" profile on your TX that causes the switches you normally use for these functions to map to a transmitted channel or axis. Of course you also have to have extra output channels available too.

The Interlink and even many USB RC controllers get around this by producing actual button or axis output to Windows on any swtich or button state change.

Is it possible to just update from rf 7.5 to 8?

Eh, yes for $90.00.

That is the software only price.

I've tried using the spekturm wireless dongle, WS1000, and my throttle gets mixed with the rudder.

That is due to your TX. It is set up for heli mixing.

You must set it up for an AIRPLANE even when flying helis.

The sim (software radio) does the mixing for you.

It's a dx6 set on acro, which is the airplane setting.

Can I use this with the InterLink Elite Controller that I got with my Realflight 7.5 DVD?

Yes no problem.

The Graupner MZ-32 set to Joystick mode (does work on Aerofly RC7) but on RF8 it does move throttle and rudder and other weird things. It cannot be calibrated.
Is this a bug? Thanks
