RealFlight 8

RealFlight 8

Controller Compatibility
I have Real Flight 3, 3.5, 5 and 6.5. The question I have is will the Software radio boxes that came with these (especially 6.5) work with 8?

Also, I still have the connector that plugs into the back of the old controllers to use my HiTech radios in game. Will they still work?
Or do I have to once again buy a new controller if I buy here on Steam?
(If that's the case, I'll buy the package from my local R/C hobby store)

For as far Ive read on here someone said that it is compatible with the RF8 as well. I could be wrong so dont held it against me. As it is the same developer, besides the vr implemented, it should register. Again, I could be outdated on this maby they have changed it I do not know I dont own RF8 yet, but the former RF7.

Any controller that is recognized as a native HID USB device in Windows will work.

RF Interlink Elites, RF Interlink X and even the older USB Interlink will work with RF8.

However the Elites and the X have the central buttons and switches the others lack.

I find the RF Interlink X to work best emulating jet controls, e.g. brakes on the right hand slider.

The Spektrum Wireless Dongle also works. The first 8 channels of your transmitter are passed to RF8.

Note however if you are using a dongle, that many changes to switches on your real transmitter are never passed to RF 8... so the sim has no way of knowing that you flipped a particular switched if it is not mapped to a channel.

This confuses people because they expect a switch to modify say rates or exponential, but the sim never sees a change.

This can be worked around by mapping the switch to a channel on your transmitter, then telling the sim to react to that channel in an "on/off" mode instead of the full travel amount.

I have 2 Interlink Elites (G4.5 and G6 Era) and an old Interlink Plus (from the G3 days)...

Is the X something that came out with G7?

On switches, I thought there was the ability to set up transmitter switches in the preferences of the software itself. I'm pretty sure I was able to do this in 6.5.

I haven't used the program in a couple of years, but thinking of getting back into the hobby and RealFlight is the best software out there as far as I'm concerned for limbering up the Gimbal fingers and ability to throw real life glitches at you (if set up properly...)

On the VR side of the house, how well does this work with the Vive and simulate the real world flight experience?

Switches must output full "channel" signals on the TX for the sim to see the results.

Many switches are often just modifiers for the main channels and do not output anything. The sim will not see the switch being changed or moved. This is no different than prior releases.

If you used prior releases you'll have no problems. I favor the Interlink over a real TX.

The Interlink X came out with Reaflight - X and now ships with RF8 when purchased with the Interlink.

Re: VR

People report good results. I have an Oculus and prefer RFX for VR but this requires fairly high end hardware and is still not fully fleshed out.

Thanks opjose,

I'll put it on my wish list for now and will check out the demo at the hobby shop. Then I'll decide whether or not to buy through Steam or the hobby shop. Never expected to find RealFlight available here, I just happened across it. KnifeEdge/Horizon use to keep this program pretty close to the chest. I guess times are a changin'...

I've still got the Interlink Plus controller from version 3.5 Would I be able to use it in RF 8?
If not, I will have to either import from USA, or try buying the RF 8 package from a hobby store in South Africa.

Not sure yet, I haven't been to the hobby store since I posted the discussion to try my interlink controllers yet. Like I said, I have both the original RF3.x to 4 Interlink and the Interlink Elite controllers.

Yes it works.

Hello Folks, I purchased RF9 but if a plug in my interlink controller from 6.5 it crashed to desktop. With my USB simple controller it works. Any ideas what is wrong please?

Found a solution for me: Interlink Elite needs simple USB 2 port. With USB 3 > crash. Works now :-)

It shouldn't.

I have it plugged into a USB 3.0 port w/o issues.

I think I had my elites plugged into a USB 3.0 port.
