Difference between Normal and Manual control modes?
I know they explained it at the beginning of the game but I tried both and could not tell a difference.

The difference is that the normal mode is like an auto combo where you can keep pressing the X button on your controller and do a full combo doing only that while the manual combo will only do the start up. The mixup is up to you.

So does it really matter which one you pick in the end? Does one have an advantage over the other? I'd imagine normal is for more casual players and that online people who choose manual will probably have an advantage.

Normal is pretty much casual friendly while Manual allows you to do whatever you wish. Manual would have more advantages in most parts since you can attempt to try to chain everything with whatever, basically more technical all around. If you learn how to play you'd have full advantages in manual.
If you've ever played Blazblue or Guilty Gear, Normal would be like stylish mode and manual would be technical.

Imo as of right now normal has the upper hand, because you can spam all game one button and deal insane dmg that manual will struggle to achieve without assists, looking at shoot style deku here.
