How do you get through the first door?
I can see the rune in the shadow that matches the door, but can't work out how to use it?

I've tried staring at the shadow from different angles, pressing different buttons - nothing happens.

Right! I didn't focus on the door first. I barely found out being able to focus was a thing, but focusing on the shadow alone wasn't enough.

Turn around and find the symbol formed by the shadow on the wall. Hold down the focus button and position yourself until the character aligns with the shadow.

Sometimes it can be finicky to line up but after you do a couple you'll get the hang of it.

This made no sense - I'm googling now. There's a big version of the M looking symbol on the door and one in the focus vision but nothing happens at all. No other shadows elsewhere. ugh bug like barrier I guess. Damn
