Monster Sanctuary, Monster Rancher Series, Jade Cocoon 2, Nexomon before they were Nexomon, Nexomon, Coromon, Every Pokemon game, Digimon specifically Cyber Sleuth Generation, Digimon Dusk and Dawn, Cassette Beast, Disc Creatures, but Temtem's youtube feed has just left such a sour taste in my mouth everytime I see it I'm like "I know I'll like it," but I just can't get over it. My own issues honestly.
As to ops question: of Coromon or Nexomon I prefer Coromon battle is a bit more in depth, and monsters have more varied stats and capabilities making it more interesting to actually build a team. Nexomon has always lacked depth due to 3 stats only and if you sit down and really checked monster moves every Type shares like 60% of the exact same moves this goes for nearly every monster. It felt like the depth of a puddle. Not saying it's bad but why I've only every played through Nexomon rather than swim a little in it for 100% dex completion or shiny hunting.
Have you tried Pokken DX? I've been having fun with it recently.
My ultimate point of this thread though is that, luckily, eventually we can play and experience all these games. I think saying one is the best overall is disingenuous to the unique mechanics of each one. This year (and frankly, the last few years) have been exceptionally good for us creature collector fans. Play them all if you can.
Alternatively you can find a fan game called Pokemon Infinite Fusion. Might also be something you'd enjoy.
That is a wholesome mindset. I wholeheartedly agree with you. That being said, what I uniquely enjoy about Tem-Tem is the ability to hangout with global chat while working on things. It's possible to discuss Monster Hunter, Fire Emblem, Sonic, and pretty much a wide variety of games quite easily with the Global-Chat Regulars. Furthermore, they are happy to assist new players with clearing Do-Jo boss encounters and progress the story-line. It's a good community. I appreciate that.
I would do this and come back to the game if there was new PVE content or new temtems added. But I heard that the devs don’t plan on adding either. Is that true?
TL:DR in advance -> Overall I enjoyed Coromon WAY more than Temtem and Nexomon , to the point I actually went back to beat it again last week with different Coromon and strategies.
Now as for which game is better... What do you want from this kind of game? Is pixel art a no for you? Do you rather play the game because of its story or you prefer thrilling pvp?
If you prefer PvP althought I love Coromon, the fact that TemTem use dual types and that some attacks have synergy with your other Temtem if you play duo, makes it a deeper strategy game and not so straitforward as Coromon is. I don't even mention Nexomon since it's a full PVE experience. Despite the fact that Coromon makes the PvP simple that doesn't mean is bad. I actually prefer it since it reminds me good old Pokemon gen 1-2 days.
If you ask me about the story I'd go Nexomon since it feels like and old school RPG that happens you have Nexomon involved in the story. NPCs feel alive and trainers ask you to battle again with stronger team each time you face them, feeling that the world is progressing along with you (same goes with wild Nexomon). That being said, Coromon also has a very good story, both are goofy and funny to read in their own way but the difference is that Nexomon happens to be a RPG that involves monster but would work without them in it's story and Coromon's is directly a Monster RPG that wouldn't work without monsters. As said, both are pretty good, but Nexomon a little step above.
Temtem story is trash. Period.
About mechanics this is the part of the game I stick to Coromon all day and then TemTem. The 3 of them use Stamina instead of PP for using attacks, which is something I really enjoy, since it makes weaker attacks viable because they use lower stamina. BUT, Nexomon stamina is ridiculous, it depletes too fast and it doesn't regen as well as Coromon for instance which brings the Stamina system the simple but the best so far. You sleep, you regen half of your STA but that can be messed up for good or bad with some moveset and climate change attacks that make your attacks cost more or less if they are on the same element (example, if it rains, every water attack not only will be stronger but will also cost less while fire attacks will cost more, now there you have another reason for investing in this kind of move).
More in deep mechanics I love about Coromon is that it's not as hard as other game to get a full potential Coromon with "perfect IV/EVs" (?). You can make potions that make stronger Coromon appear, and even if you don't get the Perfect one, you can knock knock on a researcher to boost his nature (from 1 to 15 you get a normal coromon, 16-20 a potent one and 21 is a perfect, so if it happens you get a 19-20 it can evolve to 21 if you are lucky enough). Not only they are stronger but the "shiny" thing here is a real deal. Potent and Perfect ones have different colour. Also you have 2 XP bars: The traditional level one and the "effort value" bar, in this game that effort value isn't auto, YOU have to chose according to the nature of your Coromon a number of effort values. A perfect Coromon can dip more than a Potent, a potent more than a normal etc. And yes, if you mess up or you have caught a high leveled Coromon who already has some effort values, no biggie! Just pay 6.000 and re-do all that stats as you like. If you ask me way better method than wasting dozens of hours in breeding Pokemon.
At the end of the day Coromon makes it simple, fast and easy to play without oversimplifying everything. It's damn good, that's all. Even the item finder now shows directly where you have to press A...
Nexomon actually doesn't bring anything particulary good to the table, and it's a bit lackluster that yeah you have 427 monsters, BUT you have Common-Rare-Legendary etc... and with that, comes bigger stats and makes about 300 of those monsters useless, and it hurts me a lot because, once again, Coromon makes all the Coromon quite balanced in stats. In their final form it's very rare you get a monster below 950 combined stats and above 1100. If you are lucky enought to get a Potent-Perfect one, you can litteraly end the game with the first 5 Coromon you get in the game.
About Temtem I enjoyed the dual combats that brings the most fresh combat experiencie among all monsters games I've experiencied so far, you need to think what 2 Temtem bring in combat because they can make use one of another because maybe the attack of the first can boost significantly the second attack of your partner, and that's good and refreshing, to the point I THINK if memory doesn't deceive me that some attacks can even change damage type with this perk! This is fun, rare and very deep to play, if you are a strategist you will enjoy this system more than Coromon or NExomon.
About difficulty ... they are all better than Pokemon. Period. But I think Coromon would be on top not because the Titans that are hard and can roast your full team if you are not prepared well, but because there are a few "missions" that doesn't matter the level you are, it depends FULL on your knowledge of the game. One combat is against a better version of your Nexomon, it doesn't matter if you grindfest to the max level, the other team WILL always be better (unless you get full level 100 with perfect 21 Nature, which at the point of the game where it happens is nearly impossible without spending dozens of grinding hours). The other combat happens to be with 3 Coromon you can catch in a special zone, BUT the enemy will battle you with the same number of Coromon but always 4-5 levels ahead of yours, so In the end it doesn' matter if you are level 30-50-80: He will be better. That's nuts and feels very good to overcome these battles because they are tought as hell, in the same way that some major plot battles against Nexomon with full resistances against all types are also very challenging: They are better, try with strategy or get lost.
About Endgame, I think Temtem has the upper hand here but let me go straight: I ended nexomon for the story, I ended Coromon and loved the game for the story and some PvP. I dropped Temtem after a couple of hours because althought some combat mechanics were extremelly good, the rest of the game was.... not good... specially the story which is litteraly a MMO : Go from here to here. End. Such a wasted potential. But I heard that PVP and endgame content was quite good if you have stomach to go through all the game...
So if you ask me, play Coromon if you can handle the pixel art. If you enjoyed it and you like a similar experiencie play Nexomon. Temtem is a wasted potential that feels unpolished BUT it has some very great things that maybe can appeal for you more than Coromon or Nexomon.
Sorry for the long post, I hope it helps. Happy 2024
