This has been updated in the most recent community letter.
There is currently no risk of the servers going down due to costs, but if we do need to take down the servers at any point in the future we're committed to making sure that you'll be able to keep playing Temtem.

I just read you'll be getting rid of microtransactions, which is great news, but an offline mode would very much be welcome as well.
But you still have to be online.
I strongly dislike being dependent on servers and an online connection just to play a singleplayer game, out of principle.
Especially in this case, based on everything I've been reading. I don't understand why it was made into an online game in the first place...
Whenever I see something like this, where the online aspects just feel tacked on and forced, it's always a bad look.
Speaks to developers/publishers being more interested in controlling their player's experience through pseudo-DRM and data harvesting than they are in actually creating a rich gameplay experience.
Well, other games are available in the genre. Have fun.
Not that many, though, that I know of...
There's Monster Sanctuary (which I have), Cassette Beasts (which I've wishlisted)... can't really think of anything else (except Palworld, but ♥♥♥♥ Palworld).
Then there's the fact that I already "own" this game; got it from Humble Choice.
Never bothered redeeming the key because of the microtransactions and the always-online ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.
I just read that article I linked to above which mentioned that the microtransactions were going away (which is great), but it also mentioned there were still no plans for an offline mode, which I found to be a pity, so I came to check out the forum and found this thread.
I'm just one voice, I know that doesn't matter much, but I still figured I'd add my two cents.
If players don't speak up, how are developers and/or publishers supposed to know how we feel about what they're doing?
I loved Immortal Redneck, which was a fun singleplayer game, so I was disappointed that the devs' next game was... this.
Especially reading that it's basically being abandoned for whatever they'll be doing next, it really makes me wonder why bother with the whole MMO/live service thing if they're just gonna... not do that.
From what I understand, people have been asking for an offline mode for a long time. Clearly the community wants it.
As much as I don't expect it to happen, I can still maintain a small bit of hope that some day an offline mode will be added.
Money, it's as simple as that.
I guess.
A sad and disappointing state of affairs.
Noted, thanks.
We promise that if the server needs to be taken down forever in the future there will be a way to keep playing Temtem, offline mode or otherwise, so you don't need to worry about that specifically, either.
Cheating? In an offline game?
How is it anybody's business but the player's if they want to cheat in an offline game?
