Using poison moves on non-poison tems can also be useful, you should have access to a training course that can give a bunch of different tems a poison attack.
Scaravolt I pretty much gave up on - while the fire type is useful against nature, anything with a rock move wrecks it and it doesn't actually get fire moves at the levels you're at. You could try to get one with the other trait, though, rather than the one that burns itself down.
Most of second island is nature-centric, and nature is only weak to fire and poison. You can't get fire until you're a ways into the second island, so poison is the go-to option. Wind, mental, normal and melee are also available to some extent and not weak against nature, so you could lean on those.
I made a lot of use of Platypet and Loali there, and my starter. I also used Nessla with Electric Synthesize just because that's a very very good Tem, but it is a bad type match against the nature tems.
Some good temtem for the second island are Kalabyss (Kalazu's evolution) and Skunch (Skail's evolution). These two can actually help you in most islands, so you can keep them in your squad if you like them.
When catching a temtem be sure to check the temtem stats. If your platypet dies after one hit, it might have low hp, def or sp def. Make sure to use temtem that have as many green stats as possible, the higher the number the better, and avoid red stats. Breeding does help with this (the offspring will have more chance to inherit the highest or average stat between the parents).
Also, when picking the four main techniques for each temtem, make sure to pick physical or special attacks based on the base stats of the temtem to maximize damage. For example, Skunch have a lot more atk than sp atk, so pick physical attacks for him. You should also check the traits. Skunch with Bully trait is very strong for PvE.
If you are on the second island you can take the airship and go back to the first island to catch any temtem you missed.
Also, you can absolutely clear the second, or any, island with your favorites instead of changing your team to counter it. It'll be harder, but it's certainly doable.
If all else fails, you can also try buying or asking for breeject eggs of Tems, including those you can't access to yet. Just keep in mind a lot of Tems that first show up in the wild late game tend to have really crummy low level movepools. For example, Aohi, a Fire/Mental Tem, doesn't learn a Fire attack via leveling until level 45.
And finally, without spoiling anything, don't go to the third island until you are ready. Trust me.
I guess there's a direct proximity-based trade system? IDK how easy it would be to get somebody to use that unless they're already cooperating with you.
often in global someone will give away their used up breed tems to those who may be able to use em through story so least they can come to you
