See i really don't get your logic here. What do you mean quick death ? There are many, *many* games out there with a worse monetization system and/or less content for the value and quite a few of them are well alive and kicking.
Entry pay make sense to avoid bots. Cosmetic mtx make sense because maintaining servers cost money on the long run. This system is infinitly better than f2p/p2w.
For example, did you know that FFXIV has an entry price, cosmetic mtx *and* a monthly sub ? It's also one of the most successful MMORPG ever.
Also you only ever need the newest exp. The others turn free.
Also the base game is dirt cheap and you can play just with that until lvl 50
If you think that's bad, you should see the microtransaction shop. It's insanely overpriced - nearly £10 for a HAT.
That's to say nothing of how awful their premium currency is.
For comparison le's use yugioh master duel. In that, a single booster pack costs 100 gems, and 1000 for a 10-pack. You can earn roughly 120 gems a day through the daily missions, and in that game you need to buy LOTS of booster packs. But the central point is there's good value of what you can earn.
In Temtem, you get 1, 2, or 3 "Novas" per objective... per week, At best you can double this if you pay up for premium. It's awful value - you won't be able to afford anything you want that way for weeks.
For a game that charges you full price, it's nothing short of extortionate to have a MTX system this predatory and unbalanced. If it were a free-to-play it'd be different, but this is just disgusting.
I built like 4 full decks and still had a ton left
you buy the game, and you enjoy it as you like, the developers do not control your way of playing, and do not create artificial extension of the progression in order to make you come every day, in the sordid hope of making you buy items from the cash shop, or a ♥♥♥♥ battle pass...
pay you an extension if you wish, it is at the same price for everyone, with the same content.
in the end pokemon costs you around 80 euros with the extension, and you add nothing more, Temtem will cost you as expensive or even more expensive just for a year of play, if you want to enjoy the whole content...
Battlepasses dont give you "whole content" cosmetics items arent content that you need to have or use.
Im pretty sure that if Pokemon launch a MMO Pokemon it will have some of those extra monetization because a MMORPG need extra incomme for maintain servers, develop new content etc.. It will have cosmetic shop and/or Battlepass for sure.
btw Pokemon need sometimes conection, you need trade Pokemons with the other version to complete the Pokedex or to adquire those event Pokemon.
If you think a Battlepass it's a "necessary content" to enjoy the game... then you have a problem.
If you remove the actual Battlepass.... the game wont change and it will be the exactly the same game. You are going to enjoy the same and do the same things, yo having it doesnt change anything is just a few cosmetic things. You are going to enjoy less the game because you didnt get a Skin for your character?
Game developers should learn that even though they require money irl to eat and drink and survive that I do not appreciate that for only I matter in my life.
