First Steps quest...eh

Why?

Why do I have to keep moving between Arissola and Turquesa at least 2 times?
Even with smoke bomb, I am still forced to travel there from the north of the map to the south.
This is just sad, I don't have any kind of fast travel option yet and this quest is just annoying and its even a main quest...
Walk south, talk to a kid, go back north(smoke bomb), talk to a captain, go back south again, find someone, go back north again and hopefully(idk yet) this will be the end of it...

EDIT: Entering the healing temporium(?) building automatically sets it as a checkpoint, so I have to walk/swim back north.(I assumed that you have to use the healing machine to save the checkpoint)
