Temtem

Is Leveling Up impossible to do?
I have been playing for some time, even convinced a friend to get the game hoping co op would be easier, it is not, how do I level up without a tormenting grind fest for the ages?

Catching losts of Temtem so you can use type-advantages is a recommendation, another is that once you obtain the surboard and return to the Windswept Fort and surf on the water to enter the sea and pick up the Item Coward's Cloak which you can equip on a Temtem to have them earn exp without needing to partake in the battle.

I am talking about how low the XP in the wild is but how high the lvls are for the NPC battles

Ah right, There's not really any way to speed up wild XP gain as far as I'm aware but you can rechallange NPC trainers if you co-op with a player that hasn't challenged that NPC yet, just make sure that player is the leader of the group, i.e the one who invites rather than gets invited.

That is strange, I never felt like the levels take too much time to get and never really felt outleveled by NPCs. Well, the good news for you is that once you get to the last currently available island you will find a spot where it is really easy to level up due to an overleveled enemy :D

Not really much incentive. See I play to enjoy a game, not to grind so hard it's a new full time job, and that is what this game kind of does, if you have to kill 1000 tem tem to level up one time, it is not a pleasant experience, if you have to deal with your tem tem being 10 levels below the next gym it's not a fun time to struggle to manage a win.

You should not have to grind anything unless you're trying to play competitively or buy alternate cosmetics. There are certain temtem that really help in the storyline such as ganki or nessla. Both can be caught very early in the game and having at least one lets you blaze through any water type areas and are still strong otherwise. There are also many areas you can go back to that can spawn temtem like barnshee and kinu that are quite strong and can round out your team. A lot of the common temtem tend to suck for the storyline because they don't learn good moves until later on.

Here is a useful site that shows where different temtem can spawn. Check out nessla & ganki if you haven't. If you're further in the game you will want to catch a ganki at a higher level though.

use different tems and play to type advantages... and if you are playing co-op, try to coordinate a little more. first island is pretty rough for new players... and i will admit the game doesn't get much easier but eventually if you just try to over level you will run into the level cap and be forced to learn the game systems. where pokemon and other similar games in the past have been like checkers- this game is like a game of chess.

look up coward's cloak. That's going to help you bump up some lower level temtem while using your best. knowing what you're fighting against and using temtem can have you beating some 10+ levels higher because of their weaknesses.

sometimes you'll capture some, swap them out with your current set, and push them forward.

It does seem like coop will put a delay in progress unless you truly work cooperatively in having a strategy and diversity in types you play. If you both want to level the same 3 temtem, it could punish you. If you spend many hours in coop, that's 3 temtem that loses out on some potential xp because when 1 dies, you choose from your main 3 and not your complete 6 (if I remember correctly)

you can make it work, but going from coop to solo will put you a little behind in xp, but the coward's cloak can speed up the process of catching them up as well as capturing and using temtem closer to your main 3s' levels

You can win every fight with enough revives, and if you dont live for cosmetics you can spend money pretty freely once you're out of the fort.

Early game: keep a type advantage chart open, or note that the circles under tem tell you super/not effective if you've caught the target.
