Toxic Community and Devs

That's what some reviews say at least. What's the deal with that?. I thought maybe giving this game a shot but I don't want to end up in a community where people are throwing crap at each other.

Toxic? Nah. Most of the community seems simply a bit too defensive about the game. While positive feedback is also important, Early Access titles benefit much more from criticism and suggestions. Early Access should be a medium for criticism, not a shield. There would be no point to it otherwise.

The devs don't appear to be toxic at all...they just don't seem that great at communicating things. A bit of a problem for an Early Access title that receives constant updates. Well they do post patchnotes...on Twitter and maybe they'll communicate more on Discord. But i'm not using those. But everybody who plays Temtem also uses Steam...so why not use that as well? The news section hasn't been touched since release.

Also, i'm still irked about the whole Family-Sharing thing. They could've given a warning to Steam users in advance and some explanation on why they've pulled it, rather than doing so silently. But i don't know about their inner workings, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. The game's just been out for a couple weeks and now that the game's on the Steam store, they might be overworked.

I`ve never played Pokemon or any other creature collecting game really but this is pretty cool fun as is and its got to get better. Its not a huge amount of money. I`m not super rich but i`ve still bought much worse more than this. The family share does not affect me and neither do Pronouns.
Sometimes its easy to get annoyed at other peoples irks.

EDIT - in relation to the OP question about the community and devs. I dont scour the forums and i treat this as a Single Player game.

The games fine (it has some issues that are being addressed) , community is just like any other online community. Just be glad this isn't LoL. Seriously though most of the toxic players are just people mad it isn't Pokemon or it's too close to Pokemon. I've seen people bashing this game before it was even opened up to play by some of them. In addition if you know anything about the Pokemon fandom from the last Pokemon game to come out you know how bad they can be and since this is a monster catching game, we have a few of them here trying the same stuff they did with SW/Sh.

So the only thing toxic about this community is there blind defense of an unfinished product they can't seperate the difference between critique and hatred and they believe every thing that gets said on the forum that points out one of the many flaws of temtem or the fact its unfinished or the lack of chat or so many obvious issues comes from someone spreading hate.

They use early access still in development as a shield and don't seem to understand that, you need to criticize and point out the bad of an in development game in order for it to be fixed. Its the usual crazy white knights who you find in any game that defend it to absurd levels.

For example there is a guy who posts regulary that believes that chat would be bad for the game and temtem is better off without chat etc etc.

So no I wouldn't call this community toxic I would call it normal, its the normal disparity between white knights who get triggered bye every little thing a normal gamer says. Nothing new here to be honest you can find the same stuff in pretty much any early access forum on steam.

its well known that the game is only 50% done content wise, and features like chat are coming.

Its almost like.... you bought an unfinished product.... like its in Alpha or something.

Exactly my point here I am certainly not mad at the game for being in early access!
At the same time Early access is not a shield one can use to defend from stupidity.

No chat in a game no matter if its early access or not is Not acceptable.

That is a serious mind boggling oversight that makes one wonder about the competance level of the developers.

At the same time the game play is smooth the current content is fun and engaging.

But people like you "WhiteKnights" decide people like me who have legit complaints must hate the game!

As a complete outsider to this conversation, this is pretty much what I think is meant by the "toxic community".

The fanbase immediately seems to go into attack mode if you say anything that doesn't sound like praise about this game.

It's a shame, really.

There's a thing called "constructive criticism"; if you put a game out in an unfinished state, it should be expected that people base their opinion on the current state of the game, and not "what might someday exist".

Obvious is an MMORPG releasing without chat

Its like a Race Car trying to race on Rims with no Tire's

Its a hugely legit problem!

not to mention all the rest of the lack of end game features which the game is under development so if I point out the lack of end game features you say! Duh its in development....

And I say Uhm, how are they going to get my feedback or idea's if I don't put it on paper! And you say but your being mean and toxic and then I say "No I am not" and the circle goes round and round....

I disagree with you assumption.

First off this is the most likely forum the majority of customers are going to use to engage with the developer as most of us either
A) are not going to go to a remote sight sign up and voice feedback be it for any number of reasons.
B) do not have any idea that another official forum exists as the developers have made no attempt too advertise the existence of an official forum so by shear negligence they will need to check the steam forums if they actually care about their playerbase.
C) WTF is the point of this forum if not for feedback?!? Seriously are you that whiteknight blind that your going to use the arguement that your in the wrong forum!!!
