Temtem

Why is nobody talking about the evolution system?
I really enjoyed playing through the early access for this game. I finished the story that is available in about 25 hours and i've been having a good time farming for lumas and breeding since then. However, it really boggles my mind how terrible the evolution system is...why does it go by level gain instead of a set level?

This really is a giant setback to this game and it causes lots of problems. For one, it makes catching temtem in the story basically useless because it takes so long for the ones you get that are already level 20 or so to evolve. This means that the only way to get a new tem you can use in the story is to get to the second island and breed one at level one and level it up with the cape...a lot of effort for something that could easily be included if they evolved at set levels. \

Not only this, but because there is a soft level cap at 48, there are a lot of cases where even if you find a luma temtem, you can't even evolve it at this point and it is essentially useless. For example, if I catch a luma Orphyll at level 27 I can't even evolve it in the current version of the game. Obviously, this problem will be solved once more updates are released but I still believe that this "level gain" system for evolution just feels whacky and out of place and just does not work with a monster collecting game in general. Just wondering if anyone else has any thoughts about this.

edit: paragraphs

i think its a bad system

It is an extremely bizarre gameplay mechanic, but for some reason I kind of like it. It is a serious issue with the level cap though. Perhaps they should at least implement a "max level" that a temtem evolves by (and let it still evolve after that if you catch it at a higher level).

Or they could just switch it to pokemon-like. Would be a simpler fix and frustrate far less people.

I'm not sure why they've done it this way, kind of feels like a change for the sake of change. I don't care that much personally but I can understand why you would be bothered by it.

errr can you just read without complaining as if your in grade school, we are all adults, we can read what was written without the need for paragraphs, this isn't an essay or a short story kiddo.

Personally i'd have it so after a set level you can evolve them using a semi-expensive item on them.
That way if you catch something that should have evolved 5-6 levels ago, you can choose to evolve it or not.
(basiclly how evee works)

The max level is a good solution, but even then I still think it would be counterproductive to catch any new temtem during the story. They could really capture more players with set levels and I think maybe it was avoided in order to stand out a little more from Pokemon, but for me it just doesn't work.

yeah, the level up system is kinda bad. i dont want to have to breed and grind to play catch up with my team just because i caught a higher level temtem.
with vulvir, its impossible to fully evolve a caught one - so youre forced to wait til lvl cap increase or to breed and level it up all again

I think it's a good thing personally

Yes it's longer, but then you really use all the temtem... same with the stamina thing, you're using your team instead of just spaming your best champ all the fight. With this system you can't just catch a tem lvl 28, make it evolve lvl 30 and throw it in the box forever

Yeah you need to grind, but what ? Pokemon was always a grinding game, they just made it easier and easier with the multi exp...

For the lumas I kinda agree since I'm after a Vulvir, but then, there's no wipe out so once they add the fourth island we'll be good. Or you can always try to find a second luma compatible to breed at 1/60 chances of having a luma x)

I personally find it annoying. Set levels work just fine and would make things a whole lot simpler.

I don't like this system too, but set levels weren't perfect either.
The old evolution system pushed you to ditch out your old pokemons for sake of the new ones, because they were higher level so they evolved sooner, which also made catching pokemons in the story pointless, because later you'll be able to find the same pokemon at level ~30, feed it a candy and it will evolve at once.
I can see that this system was created to fix exactly that, and it does fix this problem, kinda, but they really need to cut some numbers.
Also they already stated that you'll be able to evolve your temtem even at level 100.

Yeah, it's kind of a slap in the face to catch an unevolved tem at a high level. Like at the very least, give us something to force an evolution in the late game.

If you consider using breeding... give your low level Tems a cowards cloak in high level areas and leveling doesn't feel so anoying. For every problem there is a solution. Just gotta think harder..

Yeah f/ck anyone with any reading problems / disabilities :)

Also I hate the system too. Didnt realize there was a level cap, but good to know

It's probably only an issue at the first time you play Temtem and don't breed. For breeding this is great. They'll evolve much faster in comparison.

I think there's a reason for it and it's to engage in breeding more. I think for now it just looks problematic due to the caps in place and the fact the game simply isn't finished. I think/hope that once the game is finished, it'll fall in it's place.
