Both are really good for getting your Value up, even on the easier difficulties, which increases how much points you get for a every single blue item you collect.
You get extra lives at:
1 - 5.000.000
2 - 10.000.000
3 - 20.000.000
4 - 40.000.000
5 - 70.000.000
6 - 100.000.000
7 - 150.000.000
8 - 250.000.000
9 - 500.000.000
10 - 1.000.000.000
Additionally you get 1 extra live each time you beat the midboss of stage 3 and stage 5 without messing up their spellcard by dying (bombing still awards those lives).
On Normal I have found it easily doable to get all the extra lives up to 150.000.000 points and the 2 from the midbosses.
That makes overall 9 extra lives to be gained, more than you can carry if you don't die.
If you score very efficiently, you might even get the extra life from the 250.000.000 score requirement during the stage 6 boss fight.
That's on Normal mode. In Hard and Lunatic you can of course score much higher than that.
Overall I found HSiFS much easier to 1cc clear on normal than the games before it. Use Reimu and her default secondary shot type and you will have the easiest time doing it. Cirno's default secondary shot type can catch up easily. The other two seem much more difficulty to master.
