X4 is 2nd worst in the series in my view. Because the music was more for emotional appeal. So its objectively not good, as compared to other games were its pure metal and compliments the stage etc. So X4 is more on the line of appealing to visual novel people. Its alright but 2nd worst for this reason. Good graphics though, alongside X5 and X6.
If i were to give ratings of favorite to worst.
X6>X8>X5>X3>X1>X2>X4>X7
X6 and X7 are by far the worst.
Especially when X4 exists to show what X6 could have been and X5 also exists to show a good example thats only a bit worse than X4
(although the title here just screams "this is bait")
X3 was made by the B-Team while the devs that made X1 and X2 were busy making the actual continuation.
X3 is cluttered. Too much junk to collect that only opens up in a very specific order.
X4 is more basic in terms of collectibles, but adding Zero and making him more than just an X clone adds much more to the series than X3
X3 had stuff to it for the gameplay. X4 was basic and just at best appealing to visual novel people. So its on the bottom due to that. Sometimes i tend to favor X7 over X4.
Its not supposed to be obvious
Right there's were you lost.
Nobody likes X7.
Nobody.
(Admittedly, he does have a fair point that people mainly liked X4 for Zero's story. Not that that's a bad thing. It's one of the reasons I like X4, and have it as my second favorite X game.)
Also:
"Objectively" means "without the human element".
An opinion by nature is human-driven, thus subjective. Fiction cannot be "objectively" good or bad.
------
X6 is actually my favorite one in the X series.
I've been called a masochist by others.
They may have a point, as I'm a guy who in Star Fox 64 tried and tried, and finally pulled off the Meteo warp in 1st-person view. (...ugh... it wasn't fun)
