X vs Zero: Who would really win?

X and Zero are both legendary fighters throughout history in their world, saving their word from countless threats time and time again. But without plot armor, which one would really win in a 1v1 fight? This is of course without outside help and assuming both of them are at their strongest. This is not combining multiple versions into one ideal fighter for either, simply X when he was at his best vs Zero when he was at his best.

If we assume Zero was overall weaker in the Zero series despite his heightened speed and increased ranged capabilities, that probably puts his strongest at sometime from X4-X6 or in X8. X's strongest is probably in X8 as well.

It's probably best to leave out the Ultimate Armor since it's usually an extra. Likewise, Omega Zero doesn't count since that's someone else using Zero's body. I'm not sure about Awakened Zero, use your own best judgement on that.

In my opinion, I'd say Zero probably wins since X is unwilling to permanently destroy Zero, as well as the fact that Zero is incredibly powerful at melee range and isn't necessarily a slouch covering ranged damage either. X on the other hand can generally take a hit, but relies heavily on powerful ranged attacks and has trouble within melee range. Zero is roughly the same speed as X if not faster, so getting and keeping himself close fighting aggressively probably wouldn't be too hard.

However, it is still possible X could win if he manages to keep his distance and avoid taking too many hits, and hits Zero with enough ranged attacks such as charged shots to whittle him down.

it all comes down to the skillset, Base X is no match for Zero, if we get technical though without OP setups IE Ultimate armor X vs Awakened Zero (Nova strike is strong....But Genmu Zero Spam is ridiculous)the fights become much closer with X having 3rd/ Falcon respectively, Black Zero can negate plasma shots so Fourth loses its oomph and im pretty sure the falcon's high pierce on charge shot would bypass that, 3rd would be X's best shot at a balanced fight sporting great Area damage with Cross Charged Shot and offcourse Zero's old Zsaber, when Zero pushes hes got the shield and Hyper mode ''Gold armor'' he can use

It really depends. Canonically X is stronger (X would actually require a special Hunter Rank because Zero has the highest classification) but he is not programmed specifically to fight, instead being given the ability to choose for himself. Zero by contrast is not technically as powerful but he is specifically designed and programmed for combat (remember, he was curbstomping Sigma when the latter was a top ranked Hunter before the Wily virus code activated) being created to kill Mega Man after all. In normal situations, Zero would win simply because he wouldn't hold back regardless while usually X would hesitate. If X were to go all out and not pull punches, X would win hands down.
