My only hope is that they expand even further on that should an X9 ever be made. Axl just kinda... disappeared, and they didn't even bother with properly acknowledging him in Zero or ZX. I mean, Model Albert? Gimme a break.
You'd think. The game never really gives the player a sense of what Axl's copying is supposed to do. So it's just relgated to out of the way bits.
You're not wrong.
Once Axl appeared, you can actually see X and Zero both start to improve gradually.
At the start of X7, Zero's kinda grouchy and X... is honestly a bit of a crybaby.
But by the time of X8, notice that X's is back to his usual self ("I don't like to fight, but I'll do what must be done"), and Zero's gotten some of his cocky attitude back?
It's kind of a cool thought that Axl brought some life back into those two.
To be fair, X7's writing is a bit hit or miss at times.
Such as the intro stage. Maybe some details were left out, but the way it's presented...
Zero is responding to Maverick incident, sees a young reploid fleeing from a giant mechaniloid out for blood(oil?), demands he stop running and discuss if he, the victim, is responsible for this outbreak...
...and then after stopping the rampaging mechaniloid, arrests the young reploid for the high crime of ....running for his life?
(What is this, the Stallone movie version of Judge Dredd? "You hid in a trash can to save your life from the massive shootout, so you go to prison for 20 years")
----
Not even getting into the whole "X, you have to make me a Hunter."
...With Signas, the actual commander, standing 6 feet away. Um, as top commander, don't you think Signas gets the final say in the matter?
X: "Not just anyone can be a Hunter!"
...Really, X? What about those pathetic officers in X6 who got the snot shot out of them by the intro boss? The hunters Double killed? Green Biker Dude?
Or the officers that caused Shield Sheldon to commit suicide in the past, because they misjudged him to be the maverick (instead of the scientist he guarded, who went maverick).
All of which happened as X was on his way to correct the situation.
(Please tell me X at least gave those officers one heck of a dressing down?)
