Modtool Extra "Lovable" characters?

Been tinkering with the modtool for a bit now as I'm enjoying the chance to write up monstersonas for myself and my friends, and I'm gradually reaching a point where I'm seeing the hard limitations of the modtool, excellent though it is for most everything.

I understand the system as shown is meant so that the core cast of datable characters (Extras included) are the only ones you can woo, ask to prom directly, et cetra while custom characters are limited to background roles, walk on parts and the like. I CAN make "routes/endings" for them through items and whatnot, but no hearts, no proper lunchtime rendezvous, no love choices to make.

I'm not asking for this to change... well, not realistically, anyway. Time and money and all that, I get how this works. I'm more curious why it's put together this way and if there's any known workaround. Not that I don't adore the cast/game as is, just a touch disappointing I can't go that extra mile for my friends to the same level, even if I'm willing to write the pages upon pages that takes. Probably too complicated. To make a fully romanceable character, they'd need to change the ask to prom screen to fit more characters, as many as you might want to add, and they'd need a way to make you choose which starting quiz answers give hearts to those characters, while adding answers specific to them for all possible last quiz questions.
Finally, they'd need a way to make 8 different prom pics. In which case, what should they do? Make you draw all 8 (1 failure per player character, 1 success per player character), or only 2 (1 success and 1 failure for your new character, adding their own version of the player characters, despite them maybe not fitting your new character's art style), or give you a choice?
And those are just the obvious big issues I can see.
