As for the dabbing and everything, the game is just trying to be funny, taking Highschool and exagerating everything about it with trends and whatnot.
Would you really thing a school filled with monsters exisit and have a totally normal everday "Human" life?
Final Verdict: It's just a party game to have fun and spend a few hours enjoying a couple laughs. Not everything is "Deep meaning, trying to convey hidden messages about gender" and whatnot.
I get the game is trying to be funny, although it tries a bit hard and honestly as a senior at highschool nobody dabs anymore. I suppose the constant discussing about memes (ghost girl mainly) makes sense but there are quite a few outdated things that just really come off as cringy.
And, im glad the game isn't casual high school life, im not against that at all. Although it does seem too awkward at times and I much rather have a lot more of the crazy monster stuff. The game can be really funny though, like the whole scooby doo joke with ghost girl and werewolf boi.
And just to be clear, I would honestly hate this game if it was another one of those "deep" dating sims with actual hardcore emotions. I just want a silly monster dating sim board game with jokes littered everywhere. And im really glad thats what I got. I just wish a few of these things didn't exist or were fixed.
I've had multiple playthroughs of the game, primarily dating Damien, Miranda, or Vera, and I've only seen dabbing brought up once in an interaction between Polly and Miranda, and the joke was just that Miranda didn't know what memes were. I think that's probably more of just a problem you have with Polly's character than the game itself, since I spend very little time with polly and have come across none of those issues. It's most likely Polly is just the meme girl, in which case... yeah, you'll see a lot of memes with her. Try focusing on another character and you'll likely hardly run into them at all.
Basically I feel as though your problems are blown out of proportion just a bit. They hardly seem as big or serious as you make them out to be.
The pronoun stuff and all that got me thinking the devs were tumblr users because
1. The trailer. I don't know why but its something about the trailer that screams "I love tumblr". In the trailer they show the choosing a character and when it says choose your pronoun the guy goes "woah nice!!!", not making this the main point but rather an example.
I honestly don't care if the devs are tumblr fanatics, I simply stated I hoped it wasn't something that really shows in the game a lot.
But yea, lately ive been trying to woo over other characters and I noticed how little I hear about "lol memes bro" and other stuff that makes me physically cringe. And, this post was very clearly explaining that these are my problems im having with the game because of how i feel about things. Im not stating that Polly as a character is awful and awkward and that its a fact. Im saying I think this meme garbage is awkward in my opinion.
EDIT: Ok dear god I take it back, Vampire nerd is what really makes me think the devs are tumblr fanatics, not Polly.
