Report a translation problem
I'm assuming you are playing in multiplayer short mode. That is the shorter experience, so you have few turns to "customize" your preferences. In full mode, you will have the first turns to let the game try to "know" which character is your preference so it can show you more events regarding him/her.
My advice would be to keep playing, you would end up getting attached to all of them! <3
I've been playing single player full length and that wasn't the case I got. It literally just gave me Damian 90% of the time with the only real exceptions being lunchroom moments where I was intentionally able to go somewhere else, and as said I couldn't pursue Polly there either because she was constantly sitting with Damian who wound up hating me and chased me off any time I tried to sit at the table.
