Tripoteur pretty much summed it up though. Only one player can go to a specific place, which means you might compete for that, same for the cafeteria tables. There are week-end events in multi-player, where you either have to help (or not) a player with their potential date, or choose which of your friends is gonna be the best suited to help you. And of course, only one player can date each character.
Multi-player is best played local in my opinion (either on keyboard and mouse, or with one controller, or one controller per play), or, if you play online, with voice chat. Doing the voices for the characters is the most fun way to play. Online can be a bit buggy and unstable. You can also use a mix of local and online (like 2 players on the same computer and another one who's not).
