Game was great, sad to see Gamigo kill yet another franchise
Working through the show with my wife now and we're really enjoying it. Played years ago and got quite far in the original Defiance. Sad to see it go as it's one of the more mechanically sound shooter mmos around.

Lets be realistic yall. Trion destroyed this game years and years ago.

Gamigo killed it, Trion at least created it.
But Play button was still funtioning today, steam tried to load it. Glyph Launcher opened but everything in it was black screen, and now way to enter the game.

Yes, because it is been taken offline.

My point was that trion years ago stopped caring about the game, they ruined it and gamigo simply pulled it off life support. ITs not like trion was doing anything with the game all those years, it has sucked for many years.

Agreed. But some users, such as myself, have unlocked the game files so that something of the game will continue to exist (and recently, two users have told me they were able to unlock the D2050 version of the files with the tools that were designed to work with the D2013 version of the game). Granted, it'll not be Defiance but something of it will live on. And I still hold onto my naive hope that Defiance will come back some day, be it a resurrection of the MMO, a new game, a new series/TV movie or even a comic book/novel series. I know that's stupid, but who knows what the future might bring.

According to steamcharts.com there have been up to 6 players of D2050 and 17 players of D2013 since the servers officially went down. Either they are Gamigo or previous Trion employees with the ability to access the games or they are non employees who somehow unlocked them. The best hope is that there are some dedicated employees working on a rescue plan and not simply keeping the games to themselves.

You need to understand something. Steam charts is NOT 100% accurate you cant use them as a matter of fact. It may take days for it to catch up.

Okay. Also, to let everyone know, the Defiance subreddit is still up and the moderator there has stated they have no plans on closing it down. So, if the discussion sections for both versions of Defiance goes down, you can go on reddit, head to r/Defiance as a means of having some community (the subreddit isn't as active as it used to be, but still a great way to communicate with others), which I will continue to visit if these discussion forums close down.

Essentially, when I had heard about the games' closure, I was worried that there'd be nothing of the game except video capture footage on YouTube, so I decided to access the game assets using Zeiban's Defiance Tools (I've got a post on the discussion about it, with links if anyone else wants to unlock them. Keep in mind, there is a LOT of trial and error, especially for those who are not well versed in doing something like this, kinda like myself). After expressing my task with others in the game, several of them wanted to do the same. With the game assets unlocked, that means that the models, textures and sounds can be used for mods for other games (one user here has expressed his interest in importing the weapons models into Source Filmmaker or Garry's Mod. Another user I know is planning on having his Ark Hunter characters created as a custom squad for the game XCOM 2). This also opens the possibility of using the game assets to create machinima with as well (its times like this I wish I was a master at 3D animation).

Also, out of concerned that the story, characters and lore of both the show and game would be forgotten, I decided to get myself a thumb drive and save as much as I could for everything Defiance related, which I have dubbed The Defiance Archive, which will include the game files for both games, the unlocked assets, concept art for both the show and game I found online at ArtStation and all the videos from the Defiance YouTube Channel (I got all of them a month ago, as I wasn't sure if the channel would be shut down along with everything else or not. The videos aren't in extremely high quality, but they're still better than not having anything. Turns out I made the right decision on that, as the Defiance YouTube Channel and the videos for it no longer exist, like they never existed in the first place).

Due to my work schedule, I wasn't present for the final hours of the game. But the day before, where I got to hang out with my newly formed friends from the game (as my old ones long since stopped playing, I broadcasted in chat multiple times to users to google Zeiban's Defiance Tools in hopes of spreading the word (every time I did it in the Defiance Forums or in the Defiance Discord, the moderators would delete the posts). I did it in both versions of the games, in hopes that others would do the same. And, in my final act of Defiance, seeing that they were going to be closed down anyway, I spammed the Forum with the information about Zeiban's Defiance Tools and did the same with the Discord. I got banned from both, them claiming that I was banned for promoting third party applications. I was defiant to the end, and screencapped the messages to hold as badges of honor. I do not regret it. Now, knowing that there are some who have unlocked those assets, it gives me hope that a piece of Defiance will live on.

My Archiving isn't done yet. I plan on accessing the original Defiance show/game site via Archive.org's Wayback Machine, so to copy the information of the show/game's lore in the "World of 2046" section, including the "Map of 2046,). I don't know if I'll do anything with all I've gathered, but I feel it's important to save something of the past, much like my Ark Hunter Chase Lonehart, whose backstory I developed long before I participated in a Defiance RP with others, had him be a Historical Salvage expert long before he became one of the Ark Hunters on the New Freedom trip (while everyone was chasing what came from the sky, he was making paydays with what he was able to salvage from the underground, and started getting back into while in the Bay).

Anyways, I'll try to keep in touch here and at the subreddit (if this place goes down).

I wouldnt lose all hope yet. Gamigo WILL try to sell off this IP. There is always a chance someone buys it.

The biggest chance is a Chinese company buying it to milk it, which is very much possible.
