No it wasn't perfect not by miles and had its faults but it was fun and after the first couple of intro missions I started having a lot of fun with it.
I did lose my original save though though what I think now was a bit of carelessness and tons and tons of in game money but I started fresh and want to give the whole game one more run before I delete it.
If I had to give it a rating it would be a 6.5 / 10
Second half of the main quest line was so good I got to the end and had to stop and ask "is that it?", after the gangs are just knocked out in as many missions after barely doing anything to them. No dismantling them, that's all hidden in the side stuff, but can be entirely skipped and just take out each gang after trashing one or two of their places and killing their leader.
I think the main issue is that there's some good bits, all the LARP missions/DLC, loved that, highlight of the game. Wing suit was good fun, empire building was interesting. Otherwise it felt like a padded, yet watered down version of the older games, which seems to be what annoys people. I put 40 hours into it because I wanted to finish as much as possible, it's not that it's a bad game, it just doesn't live up to the peak of SR2/3.
Well said, I agree.
also agree on your comments regarding self censoring. It really tried to want to please everyone by not going too far and that spoilt parts of it for me. Gone is the real "Leather and lace" store and instead crap clothing options and not the stuff we had in the old games which was far superior. Rim Jobs becomes Jimrobs, seriously, that's what they wanted to do and they took that side of it a bit too far into being too safe. Other than that I had fun with the game and am on my second playthrough right now, and having fun.
I did not like the LARP quests. They were incorrect in the beginning anyway since in "real life" LARPERs use better costumes. Or so I have been led to believe by various TV shows and movies. Like in a Supernatural episode a store owner thought Sam and Dean Winchester were LARPing when they showed up claiming to be FBI. He thought they were LARPers because of their "cheap suits" apparently. And they were wearing suits and not cardboard cutouts after all. But I suppose it is not possible to LARP as FBI agents with cardboard cutouts.
Edit: Must be this episode. I don't see any cardboard. Do you? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRm0HA_HyIA
Edit 2: Not the episode I was thinking of after all. But yes, it is an episode focused exclusively on LARPing. Kinda like the episode that was focused exclusively on Scooby Doo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4plYWgWGIjE
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Edit 3: The title of the LARP episode is referring to the "Lars and the Real Girl" movie (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0805564/). I thought it was referring to some fantasy movie like "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" after seeing the title and finding it familiar. I have seen the "Lars and the Real Girl" movie (featuring a "Real Doll") but not the Chronicles one, by the way.
Anyway, I doubt I remembered by myself and was most likely remotely reminded by "tin foil hat techies". The name of the movie just came to me when I was doing other things and only then I remembered/realized/whatever. ¯\_( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)_/¯
The LARP was highly memorable, A+, great fun. (Anindya, check out the Wedding DLC with regards to costumes, supposing you have it.)
The only thing I didn't care for was the karaoke bit. But ah, friends. I get what the point of it was, and there's always a unpleasant-to-listen-to sing-along in every Saints Row.
Yes, I did notice that they added non cardboard costumes with that DLC. But you know, it's a DLC. And as the Supernatural video shows, LARPing doesn't have to mean "Dungeons and Dragons" only. As in, you can LARP as FBI, CIA or whatever agents too. And posting on the internets cannot be considered "LARPing" either from what I understand. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
If you're playing on Linux, which then would make more sense, then the game runs fine without stutters and problems.
It plays perfectly fine on my Windows system. RTX 3080, i9 10850K, 32GB RAM. Have had zero problems with performance. It's also been a year+ since launch and they've released a number of patches that may have fixed whatever issues others have. Again, zero issues for me. Runs fine.
I do! Lots of fun to be had. Nothing wrong with admitting that.
and yes, sorry folks... i was NOT disappointed. the humor is as i remembered it positively and had some really amusing laughs (SPOILER: meep meep horn or the "did you know" announcer in rojas desert north with blablablablabla - because i REALLY ran away).
the graphics are decent and the detail in the charactertuning is great. i would have liked to have a "self music radio station", but you can't have everything. i got the game + DLC in the offer here and i don't regret it. <3
