First Impressions are bad
I loved playing megaman when I was younger, I saw this one sale and bought it. I decided to go after bounceman as my first boss and get to the robot frog only to die. Still learning the controls and all, and when I die I have to redo the entire stage? Um...no thanks.

That you can put 5 minutes into a level and then come back later, as you can save the game after beating a level. So you can practice a level until you get it, its not a hard game.

I guess you missed my point then. It's not about the alleged difficulty of the game or retrying.
Well, if I am understanding you, then you do have checkpoints in this game. You only restart the stage if you lose all of your lives.

When you failed, you restarted at the middle-level check-point or right inside the corridor to the boss. Starting from the very beginning of the level would only be an artificial way to increase the game duration but it's also a very negative point for players valuing their very limited free time.

I'm considering buying the game (now that the anti-customer add-on has been removed) but now I'm hesitating.
It's the same thing with Mega Man 11, when you reach a checkpoint or boss room, you will start from there if you die. But when you lost all of your lives, you will get a Game Over and have to restart the stage, or choose another one. That's why NEWCOMER can be a good choice, because it give you infinite lives, and you can restart from checkpoints or boss rooms every time. If you want a little more difficulty, choose CASUAL, and you will start with 5 lives (you can also buy lives from Dr.Light shop, for 50 bolts each or 40 bolts on Saturday and Sunday).

I do think it's a little harder than the old NES games, but then maybe I am just better at those because I grew up on them. In any case the store lets you buy lots of items that help you beat the stages, so it's not hard unless you don't let yourself use that option. I play a stage a few times to learn it and then buy E tanks to finish it if needed.

I loved Mega Man 11. It was love at first play.

BTW, I highly recommend you to start with Block Man's stage.

We don't need to see any more of these "OMG THIS IS THE DARK SOULS OF PLATFORMERS" threads.

I was referring to the person telling op to start on one of the hardest stages in the game and telling op that there was no insta kill hazards.
