I guess my two options are: 1. clean install of windows and roll back to 23H2 or 2.wait for a windows update that hopefully fixes this issue.
While not sure the minimum requirements here, these are the steps I followed to a successful launch:
install visual c++ redistributable x86
install .net framework 3.5
install directx 9.0c
Installing those did not fix the problem for the steam version of the game, but DID successfully allow the DRM free GOG version of the game to run.
I added information to the bug report forum on here. Hopefully it will get fixed. As a side note, On a separate windows 11 pro desktop I've not had any issues loading it from Steam. Not sure what the difference could be.
the problem is, it launches and then after two seconds in the loading screen it crashes.
I'll play the game later on a VM or maybe when it gets fixed. but right now I honestly give up on looking for solutions and fixes.
There is, go back to windows 10
locate "baldrSky.exe" and select properties
in the compatibility tab select change settings for all users
select:
- compatibility mode: windows 7
- disable full screen optimization
- run this program as administrator
select apply
you should now see the compatibility options grayed out.
close the properties window
launch "startup tools.exe"
ensure that frame rate is set to "60pfs" and that image catch size is 128mb
save the settings then launch the game from steam.
the game should launch correctly at this point.
strangely if you now go back and change compatibility settings it still works? It may be that the windows 11 24h2 is doing something really stupid with auto compatibility settings and needs to have the settings manually locked once to correctly launch the game.
