Game Cannot Launch
Hi Guys, having problems with launching the game. saw some error message in Japanese words. i fiddled around with the "startup tool' in the common file folder of Steam, and disabled direct X. and the games launches, but do not have any music BGM or sounds in the game.
Anybody encountered this problem?

Have you tried my method? It works for me but i have the gog version. Like getting directx 9.0c and activate direct play. Installing both of visual c++ redistributables. Maybe you even need to activate net framework 3.5. Am also on win 11 24h2 and the game works.
unfortunately I have the same issue and I've tried everything, the funny thing I tried running a pirated version and it works flawlessly, but my steam version doesn't launch at all, I even tried swapping the files and .exe but no luck.
I guess my two options are: 1. clean install of windows and roll back to 23H2 or 2.wait for a windows update that hopefully fixes this issue.

Perhaps the latest windows update is the problem? I recall launching this game weeks ago and it worked just fine.

it is, upon a quick research it turned out that Windows 24H2 broke so many games, and it happens that Baldr Sky is one of those games.

I just got it working on windows 11, on a framework laptop with a fresh install of windows 11 pro. Had the same problem described here, where the game would launch to a loading screen then crash. I followed the advice I saw over on the GOG forums.

While not sure the minimum requirements here, these are the steps I followed to a successful launch:
install visual c++ redistributable x86
install .net framework 3.5
install directx 9.0c

Installing those did not fix the problem for the steam version of the game, but DID successfully allow the DRM free GOG version of the game to run.

I added information to the bug report forum on here. Hopefully it will get fixed. As a side note, On a separate windows 11 pro desktop I've not had any issues loading it from Steam. Not sure what the difference could be.

Seems like a steam issue here.
i guess that explains why the pirated version works fine then...

So i don't know why it works on gog and not on steam. Maybe some drm issues or another dependacy is missing. But i forgot to say i also use k-lite mega codecs package due to some japanese games need it. Does it even enter the game on steam and then crashes? Could be a codec problem.

I have tried basically everything, and I also have tried different codecs including k-lite.
the problem is, it launches and then after two seconds in the loading screen it crashes.
I'll play the game later on a VM or maybe when it gets fixed. but right now I honestly give up on looking for solutions and fixes.

Honestly, your best option would be to just go back to Windows 10. Windows 11 just ain't good.

go back to Windows 10, or Windows 11 23H2. I still haven't found a solution and decided to play the game another time.

I can confirm that the game won't open thanks to the new 24h2 Windows Update. I went back to the 23h2 version, and it's running smoothly.

can't really rollback to 23h2 without doing a reinstall with a backup of all my file as it has been too long, seems like a lot of trouble just to go back to an older windows version that will get reupdated anyway.... but yeah, bought the game and can't launch it as of now
just got the same crash-on-startup-load screen error right after the last update windows put on my PC, this is such ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, there's really no 'real' fix atm huh

There is, go back to windows 10
I may have a fix for the steam version if it is giving the error Exception code: 0xc0000005 in event viewer and crashes on starting the game

locate "baldrSky.exe" and select properties
in the compatibility tab select change settings for all users
select:
- compatibility mode: windows 7
- disable full screen optimization
- run this program as administrator

select apply

you should now see the compatibility options grayed out.
close the properties window

launch "startup tools.exe"
ensure that frame rate is set to "60pfs" and that image catch size is 128mb
save the settings then launch the game from steam.

the game should launch correctly at this point.

strangely if you now go back and change compatibility settings it still works? It may be that the windows 11 24h2 is doing something really stupid with auto compatibility settings and needs to have the settings manually locked once to correctly launch the game.
